Some matches fizzle out with extra time on the horizon – not this one.

The pace has been relentless throughout the second half as both teams looked to go and claim the win.

Huge credit must go to NI, who got on the front foot from the interval and have not eased off since.

An interesting double substitution just before the full-time whistle from Ian Baraclough – bringing striker Kyle Lafferty and midfielder Jordan Thompson on to freshen things up.

This could be an interesting extra-time. And tense, too, of course.

    Quote Message

Both teams look tired. It looks like it will come down to the team that wants it most, who will be brave and take a chance. Northern Ireland need to be clever in this next 30 minutes and play the game in the right half of the field.

  11. Will Hourihane miss haunt Republic?published at 21:42 British Summer Time 8 October 2020

    John Haughey

So we're into the extra-time that must have been a pretty good bet before the start. But the Republic now surely have that nagging fear that they may have missed the boat after that terrible late miss by Conor Hourihane. In truth, substitute Alan Browne should have put the Republic ahead before that. Slovakia had their chances too but the Irish should be celebrating in the dressing-room by now.
