Think it's quiet in the transfer market? You should see the BBC Sport offices!

Normally on deadline day, this would be a hive of activity, or at least lots of people eating sweets and pizza. Alas, this is the first time deadline day has been done mostly from home.

At least Tom can make a brew for himself without getting a massive round in, or me nagging him for biscuits. That reminds me, I need to get the party rings in soon!

Here is your latest offering of Thomas Partey puns...

Sean: Hate to be a Partey-pooper but he doesn't mind a red card or two. Not sure that playing with 10 men instead of 11 is the way forward for Arsenal.

It's My Partey and I'll cry if we don't get him.

    Gunner JC

As long as Arsenal don't Partey Thom-uch, they should be OK... yeah I'll get my coat.

    Matt in Leicester

Arsenal linked to Thomas Partey. Should go for his brother Sclub. There ain't no Partey like Sclub Partey.

  6. 'Paris will stay in my heart'published at 18:05 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

Edinson Cavani has taken to instagram to thank the PSG fans with a video message. First of all he explained why it had taken him so long to address the supporters; ”I preferred to speak after a little bit of time because my teammates who remained in Paris continued to play competitions. It wouldn’t have been good to talk at that moment but I am here to thank everyone, you the supporters who gave me your heart slowly, after a bit of time, it was a love that grew over time but that’s something very important for me, that after hard work and sacrifices and sometimes results it’s possible to create that love. That’s why it gave me so much pleasure. All the times we shared, good and bad will stay with me, so thank you to everyone at PSG… I was very proud to play for you for seven years.”

Cavani only talked about his future briefly, saying, what happened in Paris “will stay in my head and will stay in my heart but life will continue, football is like that and life is like that.”

  7. 'Thiago Alcântara has to be one of the window's top three signings'published at 18:03 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

Liverpool got Thiago Alcântara for a low fee, when you consider how good a player he is.

When he came on (against Chelsea) for his debut, we saw in that game his range of passing, the way he dictated the play.

He won the Champions League last year, so for Liverpool to get that calibre of player for the price they did, he has got to be one of my top three signings of the window.

Daniel: Arteta clearly didn't want Guendouzi anywhere near the first team after his antics vs Brighton. Needs to improve his attitude to back up his potential

All this talk about United's defence needing improvemt but only Liverpool (33) and city (35) conceded less goals than United (36) in the league last season...

    Morgan

Surely, Leeds have got to be up there as having one of the best transfer windows in England? Koch, Rodrigo, Llorente, Raphinha and more?! For less than the cost of one Jaden Sancho...

Everton's transfer deadline day search for a goalkeeper as competition for struggling England star Jordan Pickford has led to an inquiry for Roma's Sweden international Robin Olsen.

Carlo Ancelotti publicly backed Pickford last week but has now stepped up his search for a new keeper after his latest blunder in Saturday's 4-2 win against Brighton.

Everton have also made inquiries for Manchester United's Sergio Romero and Spurs keeper Paulo Gazzaniga as they attempt to get a deal over the line before the transfer window closes.

They have now contacted Roma about 30-year-old Olsen - with any deal likely to be a loan.

Definitely a lot of clubs insisting on loan deals at the moment. With the economic uncertainty around it makes a lot of sense.

Wes Stam: Don’t know if West Ham will sign a central defender but just enjoying the bizarre fact that we have the best PL defensive record this season amongst teams that have played 4 games. How did that happen?

Antoine: So many loans happening. Seems buying clubs can’t afford the ridiculous prices players go for and selling clubs aren’t willing to accept less than the ridiculous price they paid. Basically, clubs are having to rent after going into negative equity on their players

  14. Man Utd's Dembele hopes recedingpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Manchester United's hopes of signing Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona are receding.

United want Dembele on loan - and are prepared to pay a fee for that - but Dembele wants a permanent transfer.

Unless one of those parties has a significant change of mind, the France international will stay where he is.

Nick: If Manchester United could hurry up and announce Cavani and Telles, that would be great. I'm worried even those seemingly done and dusted deals may fall through!

Kira: Sancho = in a young, exciting Dortmund who play better football than United. They have a lot of potential in coming years. Fact is he has a way better chance of beating Bayern to Bundesliga than winning PL with United at the moment. Move to United is a step down.

  16. Clear plan in place at Brightonpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Brighton & Hove Albion

    Scott McCarthy, WeAreBrighton.com:

The Seagulls' transfer policy in this window has involved hoovering up some of the best young talent in Europe.

Two deadline day signings reflect that approach with Polish duo Jakub Moder and Michael Karbownik set to sign for a combined fee of around £13.5 million.

Moder is a 21-year-old midfielder, who is already a full international. He will be loaned straight back to Lech Poznan once his £10m transfer is complete, while 19-year-old Karbownik will cost £3.5 million from Legia Warsaw.

Brighton's other young signings from the continent so far include Kosovan striker Andi Zeqiri, Lars Dendocker from Club Brugge, Jan Paul Van Hecke from NAC Breda and Borussia Dortmund's Reda Khadra.

If all those young players reach the potential, then the Seagulls are going to have a seriously talented team on their hands in a few years.

  17. DONE DEAL - Carrillo leaves Saints for Elchepublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

Southampton striker Guido Carrillo has moved to Spanish side Elche on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old made 10 appearances for the club following his arrival from AS Monaco in 2018.

  19. DONE DEAL - Guendouzi joins Hertha Berlinpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Mateo GuendouziImage source, .

Whether there'll be one in at Arsenal shortly remains to be seen but here's the one out we were expecting.

Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has signed out for the year and checked in at Hertha Berlin.

Happy with that? He had been frozen out big time by Mikel Arteta.
