  1. 'Mendy's time is up'published at 09:37 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Manchester City

Nigel Rothband, Host of the Man City Show Podcast:

City’s defensive frailties are well documented and strengthening our back four was always going to be the priority for this window. Ruben Dias is a tall, strong, right sided centre back and a potential leader; something that has been missing since Vincent Kompany departed.

Nathan Ake can cover both Laporte at centre back and at left back. With Leroy Sane’s return to Germany, Ferran Torres appears to be a decent like for like replacement. Recognising how unlucky he has been with injuries, unfortunately Benjamin Mendy’s time is up. He is quick going forward but a liability in defence. City need a left-back before the transfer window closes. The big question is, do we need another striker?

Sergio Aguero has made an outstanding contribution but is now 32 and the number of games he misses is sadly going to increase. Gabriel Jesus on the other hand is a Marmite character among fans and despite being Brazil’s first-choice striker many would suggest we need another option.

  3. Garcia to Barca?published at 09:31 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Eric Garcia could join Barcelona today if the Catalans can put a reasonable offer to Manchester City.

Garcia’s contract ends at the end of the season and he has told City he won’t sign another.

The club are prepared to let the 19-year-old leave on a free transfer next summer.

However, the arrival of Ruben Dias from Benfica means manager Pep Guardiola is open to letting Garcia return to his first club.

As yet though, City are yet to receive an offer they find acceptable.

Ahh transfer deadline day. I'll never forget Torres to Chelsea. People reporting seeing him at airports, at the training ground, and even on a boat jetting up the Thames! That was some funny stuff. I love this day.

  6. Loftus-Cheek to exit Chelsea?published at 09:21 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

Chelsea have already made headlines this window by spending a record £220m on players, but movements might not have ended just yet.

There are unlikely to be any further incomings today, Declan Rice is set to stay at West Ham, but there are several players linked with a move out of Stamford Bridge.

Chief among them is winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has been subject of a loan bid by Bayern Munich. Defender Antonio Rudiger has been frozen out of the squad and linked with Tottenham, while one of Chelsea’s left-backs Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri are surplus to requirements.

There is also talk of a move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who may have been encouraged by Ross Barkley’s performance on loan at Aston Villa last night.

  8. Leeds' Dan James pursuit at an endpublished at 09:17 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Leeds United worked incredibly hard trying to bring Manchester United winger Dan James to the club over the last few weeks.

A move for James famously fell through in January 2019 when the Welshman was sat at Elland Road waiting to sign a contract after already passing a medical.

He subsequently moved to Old Trafford but wasn't even in the squad for yesterday's 6-1 defeat by Tottenham.

Leeds offered to take the player on loan or make a significant bid for a permanent transfer such is manager Marcelo Bielsa's appreciation of the player but at all stages, their approaches were rejected.

Leeds had one last attempt over the weekend - but again the answer was no.

  10. DONE DEAL - Everton sign Godfreypublished at 09:06 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Ben Godfrey

Everton have confirmed the signing of defender Ben Godfrey from Norwich for £25m, which could increase to £30m with add ons.

The 22-year-old former England U21 captain has signed a five-year deal with the Premier League leaders.

Godfrey said: “The aim for me at Everton is to win trophies and win games. I like to win. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I care and I am a passionate lad."

  12. Tarkowski staying at Burnley?published at 09:02 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

England defender James Tarkowski has been the subject of interest from West Ham and Leicester during the transfer window.

But Burnley have rejected all offers for Tarkowski so far and sources feel the 27-year-old is likely to remain at Turf Moor.

  13. Postpublished at 09:00 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

Three games, three defeats for Burnley so far.

The Clarets may well be looking over their shoulder for much of the campaign.

  14. 'You wouldn't have thought the window had opened at Burnley'published at 08:57 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Burnley

    Tony Scholes, UpTheClarets.com

You wouldn't have thought the window had even opened at Burnley. We've done no more than bring in a third choice goalkeeper and central midfielder Dale Stephens who was signed from Brighton for around a million.

That doesn't even cover the players who have left and is despite the manager's constant pleas for new players.

Hope and expectation is at two different levels. We hopes, at minimum, to see a central defender, a young right-back and a wide player, preferably to play on the right

That, I would think, is the bare minimum for most supporters. The expectation is that nothing is going to happen and that seems to be Sean Dyche's view right now.

  18. Saints enquire about Walcottpublished at 08:48 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Southampton have inquired about signing Everton forward Theo Walcott on loan.

The 31-year-old is struggling to figure in Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti's plans and his former club have made an approach about a loan move, although no deal has been struck yet..

Walcott started his career at Southampton before moving to Arsenal in 2006. Everton signed him from the Gunners in a £20m deal in January 2018.
