    Semra Hunter
    La Liga TV presenter

Barcelona have been trying to get a deal done with Manchester City for Eric Garcia.

Manchester City said it is 20 million euros or nothing. Barcelona made a bid for him today of around 17 million euros and Manchester City said 'no, sorry, we want the full amount'.

Some people have complained about that because in a year his contract is up, when he will be able to leave for free. Some people felt Manchester City should have taken the money and run.

It seemed as though they had been working up to the closure of the window on a one-year loan deal.

  7. Read this and get excited Arsenal fans...published at 23:18 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

Thomas Partey has a lot to offer. He has been one of the best players at Atletico Madrid over the last two seasons.

He was key for them in their Champions League campaign.

He is someone who is very good at protecting the defence but is also very good at going forward. He is an excellent passer of the ball. He is great when it comes to ball recovery and pressing up the pitch.

He even gets involved in the attack, does like to take on a long-range shot every now and again and does score some really nice goals as well.

He has very good technical ability, he is humble, he's professional, he's serious and he wants to go far at a club that wants him to be there.

  8. 'Burnley need to strengthen'published at 23:14 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Ian Dennis

    Sean DycheImage source, Reuters

If this was a normal transfer window, then I would say Burnley, emphatically, have had the worst transfer window. But because they do most of their deals from the football league, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt that between now and 16 October, they are going to have to try and get some players in.

If ever a manager needed backing in terms of numbers and support, it's Sean Dyche because he's done wonderfully well over the last few years to keep Burnley in the top flight.

But if they do not strengthen between now and 16 October - and the deadline then is at 17:00 BST - you would have to have grave concerns about Burnley.

If they pick up a couple of injuries, they are going to be very vulnerable indeed.

  9. Tomori snubs Hammerspublished at 23:14 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori has snubbed the offer of a deadline-day loan move to West Ham.

The Hammers agreed a deal with Chelsea to take Tomori for the remainder of the season but the 22-year-old England international opted against the move.

It was disappointing for West Ham, who also failed to land another Chelsea player, Antonio Rudiger, and Burnley’s James Tarkowski in their bid to add another central defender to manager David Moyes’ squad.

The Toffees have their competition for Jordan Pickford in the shape of Robin Olsen, on loan from Roma.

He is a 30-year-old Swede with 38 caps for his country. No slouch.

  14. 'There was nothing Atletico could do about Partey departure'published at 23:02 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Semra Hunter
    La Liga TV presenter

Diego Simeone will not be at all happy about losing Thomas Partey to Arsenal.

Unfortunately for him there was nothing he could do about it because the way these release clauses work in Spain, if a club or player want to pay out their buyout clause then the club that owns the player really can't do anything about it.

Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have also been doing a dance over the last few months.

Arsenal were told that they would not negotiate, that they would have to meet the buyout clause. That's exactly what happened today.

You have to go to La Liga headquarters directly and lay a deposit and that way you can de-register the player.

Atletico is not involved in the process whatsoever, they will have just got a notice that Arsenal have activated this clause and they would be taking the player with them to the Premier League.

And that's that! The transfer window is over, unless Premier League clubs want to sign players from the Championship.

Still we wait for a few to be confirmed. Thomas Partey? Ruben Loftus-Cheek...?

  17. Amad Diallo's United attractionpublished at 22:56 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Unlike Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles, the signing of Amad Diallo fits in with the cultural reboot Manchester United spoke about in the aftermath of Jose Mourinho's dismissal.

At 18, Diallo evidently has his best years ahead of him - and with a 20m Euro add-on to a 21m Euro fee, United are looking long-term to what the Ivorian can achieve in the future.

He has been on their radar since 2016 when he impressed in an Under-15 game and positive reports have been received from local scouts since then.

United sources say Diallo has received the highest ratings for academy and developing players - that they have managed to do the deal is a cause for celebration at Old Trafford.

He is likely to arrive in January.

  18. 'Arteta may keep Ozil away from dressing room'published at 22:48 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Don Hutchison

Mikel Arteta and Mesut OzilImage source, Getty Images

Arsenal fans are resigned to thinking it's pointless bringing Mesut Ozil back because they have got a fantastic group of youngsters and characters that are really going to be exceptional players - and I mean this with the utmost respect to Ozil because he's had an unbelievable career - but he might not be the best player to come back into the dressing room and potentially upset the rhythm that Mikel Arteta is building.

The youngsters especially want to be learning from Arteta and the senior pros, so Ozil might be one that he keeps him away from the dressing room so that in seven or months time, he can leave on a free.

  19. The window's about to shut - sort ofpublished at 22:48 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

To clarify, this season there are two transfer windows, tonight at 2300 BST – and then 16 October at 1700 BST.

The latter window is between the Premier League and EFL, so transfers can be made between clubs in the two leagues but NOT between two Premier League clubs.

It is worth noting that registration of 25-man squads for European competition has to be completed by 2300 BST on 6 October.

Effectively no player signing for a club after this time could play in Champions League or Europa League games, but they would be available for domestic competition.

An update on Manchester City defender Eric Garcia from our man Simon Stone...

He will remain at City and not join Barcelona after the Spanish club failed to reach the valuation of the player.

Garcia is out of contract next summer.
