Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl speaking to BBC Sport: "After the first 30 minutes no-one probably thought we could get something out of this game, so getting it back to 2-1 before the break was important.

"We found the belief to play the way we wanted to play in the second half, which was much better.

"We definitely deserve this point. We showed real belief in the end, you can see we pushed hard to make the equaliser and finally a deserved point."

On Timo Werner: "I knew the moment would come that he scored his first goal in the Premier League. I hoped it would not be against us.

"When you give him space, it's hard to defend against him. The first goal we made it too easy for him.

"It's tough to defend against him. When you are not tight on Timo and Kai Havertz they will kill you.

"But I am really happy that Timo is in England and playing in the Premier League. He's fantastic for the fans, but it's good we took a point as otherwise I wouldn't be so happy for him."

On Southampton's late appearance for the second half: "Do they want to make us tired here? It's a long way to get down the stairs and back to the dressing room. There is not enough time to speak with the players. You miss the moments when you come in the moments when you go out again, so it's not perfect."

Arsenal needed to mount a strong case to get Kieran Tierney cleared for today's game.

Tierney missed out on Scotland's three internationals after it was determined by the local health authority that he was a 'close contact' of Celtic's Stuart Armstrong, who tested positive at the start of international duty.

However, Gunners provided evidence to show Tierney had observed social distancing protocols at all times during his time with Scotland - and the defender's presence in the visitors starting line-up confirms they were successful.

Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, speaking to BBC Sport: "You go two goals up you want to finish it off. It was the best we've played this season for sure at this stage. But Southampton are a good side. They put pressure on us off the ball. They put us under pressure after the first goal. My message at half-time was that the goal shouldn't change too much. We never got to the same levels in the second half. We can do better.

On Timo Werner's goals: "They are great goals. The second in terms of the team was class but it is a lot to do by Timo. Those moments will come from him and other players. But we need to be more solid and making individual mistakes gives other teams chances."

On the amount of goals in the Premier League: "We are seeing lots of goals across the league and no manager is happy. I don't know why it is. There are attacking players in this league and maybe pre-season and lack of working time plays a part. But we have to get better at it."

Sergio Aguero's return is quite surprising. I think it might be a bit too soon, I hope it's not. He changes the whole dynamic of the way Manchester City play. He's the all-time top scorer, he offers so much in terms of his movement and build-up play but in front of the goal he is clinical. So I hope he is fully fit, but he's in there for a reason.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola talking to Sky Sports: "It is good to have Sergio Aguero back. He has been gone a long time. We thought it was better to start with him than bring on from the bench."

Southampton

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl: "We saw a very interesting game, spectacular, with a lot of goal chances.

"Not so good in the first half from my side. We did not have much time to prepare for this game, but in the second half we were much better.

"We were dominant, had a lot of possession and showed good game management.

"The goals we conceded were too easy, we know the quality and speed of Werner and Havertz.

"But we never stopped believing, made the equaliser and I think the point is deserved.

"We are trying to develop every part of our game. Good stuff in possession, good game plan and fantastic to get this point against a very strong side.

On Theo Walcott's performance: "It is different, the way we play, but he showed he helps us. Has chances to score, final shot not perfect but I'm happy he is here."

Chelsea

Chelsea striker Timo Werner: "The first half we played very well. When you get a goal two or three minutes before half-time it is not easy. You have to think with a clear head. Southampton make a lot of pressure on us and pressed us high. We gave them too much in terms of opportunities. We have to win the game.

"I am happy about the goals but I want to win the game. 50% I am happy, 50% not.

"I don't know if we have a problem but the last three games we concede six goals and it is not where we want to be, to compete for titles. In Germany we always say defence wins titles. If we concede so many it is hard to win games and win titles."

Southampton

Southampton goalscorer Jannik Vestergaard: "I was confident we'd get another chance on the second-half performance. I was happy to get the chance and guide the ball in. On the second half performance, it was deserved.

"Theo did brilliantly - he went the full 90 minutes. We require a lot from our wingers - he did well offensively and defensively."

Southampton striker Che Adams: "It started quite slow but we managed to get ourselves in the game. I think it is a fair result.

"It is good to contribute. We work hard so it is nice to give something back.

"It is a great bunch. The gaffer has built a good base and hopefully it will continue."

Tor Nopphrat: Somehow I’m not impressed with Havertz yet. Yes, he’s got a goal but he nonchalantly lost the balls while he should’ve released them earlier and put our fragile defense under unnecessary pressure

New £45m signing Thomas Partey is on the sidelines for his first taste of Arsenal action this evening.

Partey joins the Gunners from Atletico Madrid with a big reputation but manager Mikel Arteta resists the temptation to throw the Ghanaian in straight away.

Arsenal have not even managed a point at the Etihad on their last four visits.

Arteta was in the home dug-out for all but the last of those.

It will be fascinating to see if he can put one over on his old boss Pep Guardiola tonight.
