Pep Guardiola had his head in his hands when Phil Foden's latest chance was saved just them.

The Manchester City boss just can't stay still, pacing around in his technical area before turning round, saying something to his coaches, slumping in his seat, waving his arms around a bit, saying something, then getting up again.

Mikel Arteta just stays at the edge of his technical area, quite calm in comparison.

Arsenal are caught out as they try to play out from the back and Sergio Aguero squares for Phil Foden but his attempt to tuck inside the near post is well read by Bernd Leno.

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

Riyad Mahrez, who has been a menace throughout to the Arsenal defence so far, juggles the ball just outside the box, flicking it from one foot onto the other before driving a decent strike just over.

Just over half an hour gone and Manchester City are swarming forward in numbers as they look to add a second before the break.

Arsenal's attacks remain on the counter and almost always coming down the left.

  8. 'You score as a team and concede as a team'published at 17:58 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Chelsea 3-3 Southampton

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard speaking to BT Sport: "First half some of our football was great. At 2-0 up you want to finish the game off but we allowed them to score before half time and at 2-1 it is a different game.

"In the second half we allowed them to put pressure on us and gain some traction in the game. Obviously we then concede late on and lose the points.

"You can't split the team between defence and attack. In our first goal you have to give credit to our defence and attack as we worked the ball from back to front.

"It's the same when you make mistakes and give goals away. You concede as a team. Both have a direct effect on results."

Given the two managers, it was always likely we would see some unusual tactical moves this evening.

So far, Willian has had a spell as a centre-forward, Raheem Sterling the same as a deep midfielder. City alternate between four at the back and three depending on whether they are attacking or defending.

I can't imagine Pep Guardiola nor Mikel Arteta sending their teams out with the simple message 'just play'.

    Man City 1-0 Arsenal

Arsenal respond immediately as Bukayo Saka charges at Rodri on the left of the Manchester City box. Rodri, on a yellow, puts in a half hearted challenge that Saka sidesteps and then stings Ederson's hands with a fierce effort.

Moments later, Nicolas Pepe heads wide following the Arsenal corner.

    Raheem Sterling

    A wonderfully worked goal!

It starts with Riyad Mahrez on the flank as he turns and finds Sergio Aguero in the middle. The striker bides his time, waiting for support, and then plays in Phil Foden, who cuts inside and although his shot is parried away Raheem Sterling is there to sweep home the loose ball.

With all Man City’s money, success and backroom expertise, I’m amazed that no one has taught Sterling how to run properly yet. He looks like he’s being controlled by a drunk puppeteer

Arsenal haven't had a shot of note at all yet with almost 20 minutes gone but they are getting slightly more adventurous now as they again attack down the left.

This time, Kieran Tierney tries a sweeping ball towards Hector Bellerin on the right side of the box but Joao Cancelo heads away the danger.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is causing problems with his pace on the left when Arsenal do manage attack. He races up the flank but his low ball into the box is cut out.

No shots on target yet from either side.

Ian Batten: Why are Arsenal in blue....second (third) kit madness

Arsenal play in red. So for the away game against City who play in blue, they choose their away kit. That is blue.

    Ed, Leeds

Can anyone explain why Arsenal are playing in blue!! You wouldn't get Blue v Blue in a school match.

Good run by Bernardo Silva and he breaks towards the box before feeding Sergio Aguero on his right. The striker's cross is blocked and the hosts have the game's first corner.

Arsenal can't get rid of Riyad Mahrez's delivery and Phil Foden's shot deflects behind for another corner but this time the visitors win a free kick as their break following the set play is halted.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang flicks on a header and Bukayo Saka chases onto it. He has no support, however, and is closed down by the Manchester City defence and loses possession.

Ten minutes in and after a lively opening couple of minutes the pace of the game has settled down a fair bit.

Riyad Mahrez has the ball on the right, he twists and turns to give himself a bit of space from Kieran Tierney but his cross is nodded over by Sergio Aguero.
