  3. 'We need to get that win as soon as possible'published at 18:28 British Summer Time 24 October 2020

    Fulham 1-2 Crystal Palace

    Fulham

Fulham captain Tom Cairney, speaking to Premier League productions: “It’s been the story of the season. We’ve dominated possession in games and had more shots, but we can’t seem to keep teams out. If you give teams 2-0 leads in this league they’ll hold on. We were good between both boxes, but we couldn’t hurt them.

“We’re readjusting. It’s still fairly tight [at the bottom] but we need to get that win as soon as possible. Palace are an established Premier League team and have a lot of quality on the break.

“The squad can’t get too disappointed with defeats. We need to keep working hard – I know that’s easy to say, but it’s the only way we can get out of this.

“We need to keep performing each week.”

Michael: Difference in managers. Lampard on the touchline instructing his players whilst Ole sits in his seat all match! 73 year old Roy Hodgson is more animated than Ole!

Luke: The James vs James battle has been interesting. James has been quiet but James has also been quiet. Expect see more from James in the second half

Adam: Well, that was absolutely, totally, completely, utterly rubbish. And there’s still 45 minutes to go...

  5. 'We looked very dangerous'published at 18:25 British Summer Time 24 October 2020

    Fulham 1-2 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It was a good result which followed a very good performance. They asked us a lot of questions, but we were closing off all the major routes towards our goal and looked very dangerous when we did get the ball.

“The only thing that spoiled a perfect day was getting a goal in the 90th minute which prevented us from getting a clean sheet. But I’m just delighted to get the three points.

“Every game has its own stories. If everyone could bottle your best performance you’d be right up there at the top of the table at the end of the season, but you can’t. Form dips, players have good games and bad games.

“I was quite prepared last week to take the criticism, which I think was justified. We’re a much better football team than that.”

On Nathaniel Clyne: “He got thrust into the game earlier than we would have liked. He did ever so well to get through the 70 minutes that he did. After losing Ward and McArthur yesterday it was fantastic he was able to come in and do the job that he did.”

This is the sort of match that's encouraged me to get the spreadsheet out for better entertainment. Worked out that the two lineups are worth £743m in transfer fees alone; £1.041bn if you include the benches. Utd slightly more expensive but it's close. Football's weird nowadays, isn't it?!

  7. 'We were good value for three points'published at 18:19 British Summer Time 24 October 2020

    Fulham 1-2 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, speaking to Premier League productions: “We scored two good goals and I think we should have scored one or two more. I think we’ve got to be very satisfied with our day’s work.

“You’re going to be disappointed when things don’t quite go your way. Today we’ve conceded another injury-time goal, but throughout the 90 minutes I thought we were very good value for the three points.”

On Wilfried Zaha’s performance: “He’s an excellent player and that’s what he’s capable of doing. If ever I sound mildly critical he thinks I’m picking on him, but every press conference I go to he’s the only player they want to talk to me about!

“He deserves all the praise he’s going to get. He reminds us that when he’s on top of his game he’s a very hard player to stop.”

  8. 'Our next game against West Brom is a massive one'published at 18:18 British Summer Time 24 October 2020

    Fulham 1-2 Crystal Palace

    Fulham

Fulham manager Scott Parker speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We had a good share [of the game] and that's probably been a factor in all our games. The goals came at the wrong time for us, for the dominance that we had. The first time they got in our box we conceded. In the second half we got at them and had a control and quality about us against a team that enjoy their moments. It is a tough one to take today.

"I don't think we need to be more direct but when we get into those moments we need to understand the game and the opponents. We were playing against a block so you need to take those shots. I just felt we just didn't take those slight moments you get against Crystal Palace. It's disappointing.

"That's just where we are. This team is learning about the dynamics and the fine margins of this division. You can control a game as much as you want but you need to understand the opposition and the dynamics you're playing against. I see big improvements, this is a young team playing against a team established in this division and who know their way around it. I hate losing and we need to pick up wins quick.

"There's no hiding that the next game for us is a massive one and West Brom will be saying the same. They will come here with a real appetite to take something and we need to take that as well."

I've got some reacton from the earlier game for you, starting with a headline that you really don't see every day:

  10. Cavani warming uppublished at 18:18 British Summer Time 24 October 2020

    Man Utd 0-0 Chelsea

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Edinson Cavani was warming up at the end of the first-half.

It was only routine but it will be interesting to see how long Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leaves it before introducing Manchester United's Uruguay striker.

    This has not been good.

I'm long past the point of even knowing what is and what isn't a penalty any more but yes, not for the first time this year you'd have to say it looks like Harry Maguire has got away with one there.

Lewis: Azpilicueta strangled by Maguire... How is that not a pen???

Ash: How does Maguire not give away a penalty? His arm was around Azpilicueta’s neck. More VAR inconsistencies

Nick: How is that not a penalty?! We have VAR to check if someone's sleeve is closed to the goal than someone else's knee, but you can get someone in a headlock and that's not even looked at?

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 40 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Chelsea

That's almost a way through! Marcus Rashford runs at the Chelsea defence and lays it off to Juan Mata, who hits a curler, rising, and it's well saved by Edouard Mendy. Flying to his right.

VAR has a look at Rashford taking a kick after he laid it off but decides we're alright thanks and let's carry on.

From the free-kick Cesar Azpilicueta ends up in a heap, Harry Maguire headed it out but he had both hands around the Chelsea man's neck. Got away with one there?

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 39 mins

Yeah, you can't do that. Reece James knocks it past Luke Shaw, who gets both hands around his neck to try and slow him down. Booking and a free-kick.

Marcus Rashford hit that shot from the exact blade of grass where Eric Cantona chipped Lionel Perez, by the way.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 35 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Chelsea

Although we are warming up! Juan Mata releases Marcus Rashford in behind a Chelsea defence caught out by a turnover, Rashford obviously has the pace to burn in and Edouard Mendy is a long way off his line. Does he think about the chip? He does, but instead its it hard and low and Mendy saves well with his feet.
