Whether or not Callum Wilson admitting that sort of thing is clever or not is up for debate, but what is not is this:

Newcastle have won three penalties in their last five Premier League games, as many as their previous 76 games in the competition.

Mohamed Elneny is back in central midfield for Arsenal, Scott McTominay returns for Manchester United.

For all the outstanding offensive players on show at Old Trafford this afternoon, I wonder if today's game might be decided by the central midfield battle.

Denying those forward players room is crucial.

    Newcastle goalscorer Callum Wilson:

"We worked on getting across the near post. As I saw him swing his leg I got clever and let him kick me. There was a delay, I thought about changing things, but I kept my cool.

"It was nice to get another; I was just disappointed to come off with five minutes to go with a hat-trick pending.

"We’ve looked quite solid and we can build on that platform.

"Scoring at home is nice, but you want to be celebrating with the fans."

Manchester United v Arsenal (16:30 GMT)

I should say that we were originally told that Arsenal were going with a back four today but our latest steer is a back three with Saka as a wing-back. We shall see.

United are now out also warming up in excellent early 90s shirts. It's like a Rumbelows Cup game. Better times.

There are still question marks over what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will do against Arsenal this weekend.

Their form in the Premier League, I think Manchester United fans would admit - they are slightly concerned about that.

Maybe it is that in Europe he has found a formula to win a certain way but in the Premier league they struggle.

He has something to grab on to there, Solskjaer. There's some positivity. But what is it?

We still don't know what Manchester United are. They're playing counter-attacking football but can you do that with 70,000 fans at Old Trafford? I'm not sure.

  6. 'Learning curve for Solskjaer'published at 16:00 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2020

Man Utd v Arsenal 16:30 GMT

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Do I think United have improved? I'm not so sure. But I think given time they will get it right.

It's a massive learning curve for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a manager as well.

The Premier League is the toughest league in the world, so for him to try and challenge for the top four with Manchester United is such a big ask to do.

He's now got to go and win trophies, but that's going to be so hard with the strength of Manchester City and Liverpool.

There will be a minute's silence and the players will wear black armbands today in memory of former Manchester United midfielder Nobby Stiles, who died on Friday.

It is such a shame Old Trafford will be empty.

Stiles was a legendary figure at this club and deserves 70,000 people here to pay their respects.

    Afternoon all,

as the autumnal gloom shrouds around me Arsenal are warming up at Old Trafford in some magnificent bruised banana style tops. It's great to see.

    FT: Newcastle 2-1 Everton

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't think it was a classic. Everton got their formation wrong, not enough creativity or service for Calvert-Lewin.

I'd say overall, 2-1 was a fair result.

    Newcastle 1-2 Everton

    Chris Waddle

It was the best bit of play Everton put together.

It's deflected into Dominic Calvert-Lewin's path. It was a good finish as well.
