There was a bit of handbags between Wilson and Mina in the lead up to the former taking his penalty. Mina had words, Wilson shoved the ball in his stomach and was booked. The Newcastle striker had the last laugh, though.

The big guy gets down, gets his arm out and pushes it away.

Newcastle are playing well. They've upped the tempo and could be 2-0 up.

Oh, what a good save that is!

Newcastle with some lovely approach play sees them work the ball to Sean Longstaff in the box. He turns and fires ion target, but Olsen is there to somehow turn it over. Could well have been his face he used, but he was in the right place.

That could have been game, set and match had it gone in.

Another cross is aimed towards Calvert-Lewin in the Newcastle box but Darlow does just enough to come out and claim the ball.

Couple of half-chances for Everton in the same attack. Calvert-Lewin can't get over a header enough to steer it on target and then, with the ball having dropped in the box, Sigurdsson sees a shot blocked.

Calvert-Lewin needs a bit of patching up after a clash of heads with Fabian Schar but he'll be OK.

He's taken Jordan Pickford's spot today but he's not had much chance to show what he is about yet. Robin Olsen's league debut for Everton has yielded one save, though, and a good one to deny Allan Saint-Maximin.

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith to Sky Sports: "It's a hard game to decipher. They have a specialist free-kick taker and he's put one on a plate for the first goal and scored two great goals. We were 3-0 down at half-time, we weren't at our best but it was a bitty half with lots of stoppages.

"The first goal is never a foul, we have to defend it better and we made poor decisions. Then we had to try and change the game and if it had gone on another five minutes we might have won it, never mind get a point.

"They are very compact, they press quickly and it was hard for us to get any rhythm. We got frustrated with a lot of decisions."

Everton's balance isn't suiting them, they have no width or service going into the box.

Saint-Maximin could have scored, but Everton need to improve.
