Chloe Kelly curls it into the edge of the box. Rose Lavelle calls for it and nods it into the path of Ellen White, who swipes the air as she miscues her volley.

But the flag is up anyway. Lavelle was just offside.

  2. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

There's a hiss of excitement on the Everton bench as it's played long to Hayley Raso. She isn't too far away but Ellie Roebuck will always get to that first.

Inside the stadium, the main noise we can hear is the low rumble of what sounds like an air conditioning unit, accompanied by the sound of BBC Radio Manchester's commentary and players shouting things like 'go on, go on! yes, yes.... now!' at each other. There's a little bit of an echo around the empty stands. It's not a new thing anymore, of course, with several games having been played here since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, but it still feels really weird.

  4. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

Lucy Graham wants a free-kick after a challenge by Caroline Weir but the referee waves play on.

Sam Mewis carries it forward on the break but Dan Turner and Rikke Sevecke deal with it when it comes over to Chloe Kelly.

Alex Greenwood then whips a corner in from the right and it's cleared only as far as Lucy Bronze on the far side.

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

It's played long to Sam Mewis, who has got in between Everton's centre-backs. She controls it well and manages to get there ahead of Sandy MacIver but the keeper is out quickly to make the block.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 25 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

There's a bit of space in behind but Lucy Graham's pass through to Valerie Gauvin is blocked by Alex Greenwood.

Hayley Raso then comes in clumsily on Lucy Bronze and she's in the book.

  7. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

Poor Rose Lavelle isn't seeing any of the ball on the far side. Lucy Bronze and Chloe Kelly are linking up and running Hayley Raso ragid.

It's the Everton midfielder who ends up giving away a foul on Bronze but Carole Weir's set-piece is cleared.

That's a decent shot by Chloe Kelly but it's one you expect the keeper to save. She can go on her left foot and she can go on her right foot.

  9. CLOSE!published at 21 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

It's Chloe Kelly again! She cuts in off the right and fires it dangerously towards Sandy MacIver's near post.

The young keeper does well to block it but it's parried just in front of Ellen White. Thankfully for Everton, Rikke Sevecke reacts quickest to get there first.

  10. 'Everton need to be clinical'published at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2020

It is a really good break by Everton. I'd like to see it from different angle. Everton have built their way into the game but they need to be clinical when they get chances. That was a bit rushed by Damaris Egurrola.

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

Turns out Lucy Bronze did get a yellow card for that challenge.

  12. CLOSE!published at 17 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

    Everton's best chance!

The free-kick hits the wall and there's a scramble in the box to pick up the loose ball. Damaris Egurrola calls it and smashes it first time. It's inches over the bar!

  13. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

Hayley Raso robs the ball in the middle off Steph Houghton and she's through one-on-one with the keeper.

Lucy Bronze gets back and slides in. Referee Rebecca Walsh gives a free-kick but there's no yellow card. Did Bronze get the ball and the player?

  14. Postpublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2020

    Attack v defence.

  15. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

It's all City. Chloe Kelly is getting all the ball down the right. Dan Turner slides in unsuccessfully and Kelly has time to pick out her cross.

She sees Ellen White running in but the cut-back is intercepted. City win the ball back almost immediately though.

  16. 'Competition for places really strong'published at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2020

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on BBC One

It's really interesting that we have two young English keepers in the shape of Sandy MacIver and Ellie Roebuck. The competition for places for England is great at the moment.

  17. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

Sam Mewis sticks a toe in and wins the ball back for City in Everton's half. She sets Chloe Kelly on her way but Dan Turner does really well to stop her.

Kelly eventually whips a cross in towards the far post but it's headed behind by Rikke Sevecke.

  18. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

Chloe Kelly slots one down the line for Sam Mewis, who hassles Rikke Sevecke in the right corner.

Goalkeeper Sandy MacIver screams "away" in the Everton goal and her teammate does so, hoofing it out for a throw-in.

  19. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

Everton get into the City half and it's the first real bit of defending Steph Houghton has to do to stop it coming through to Valerie Gauvin.

Caroline Weir tries to break through the middle for City but her pass out wide is wayward and Demi Stokes won't get there.

  20. 'So difficult to defend against'published at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2020

    Everton 0-0 Manchester City

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on BBC One

It's a positive start by Manchester City. They're very much on the front foot. Their front three are all changing positions and it's so difficult to defend against. Everton are very well organised and disciplined.
