The international break came straight after Aston Villa's 7-2 win over Liverpool.

“There was always a worry that you could be complacent straight after, but some players have gone away and the others have stayed here and worked hard," said boss Dean Smith.

And it's been a successful break for many of Villa's internationals, with Jack Grealish making his first England start against Wales, John McGinn having his first game as Scotland captain, Bertrand Traore scoring twice for Burkina Faso and Douglas Luiz making his first two starts for Brazil.

“I was really pleased that he [Grealish] got his first start and produced a man of the match performance," Smith added. "He’ll be disappointed that he didn’t play more minutes, but the beneficiaries are Aston Villa because he’s fresh.”

  3. Momentum is key, we have to maintain it - Smithpublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

Leicester City v Aston Villa (Sun, 19:15 BST)

    Aston Villa

After stunning champions Liverpool 7-2 last time out, Aston Villa are joint-second with nine points from 12.

Manager Dean Smith said: “Momentum is key, there is an awful lot of belief and quality within the team and the performance against Liverpool proved that, but we have to maintain that.

“There is always room for improvement. We have started the season well, there is confidence within the group and we believe that we are a better team than last season.“

  4. 'We turned a corner that night - and we can prove it on Sunday'published at 10:52 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

Leicester City v Aston Villa (Sun, 19:15 BST)

    Aston Villa

There have already been some eye-catching results this season, with Aston Villa beating champions Liverpool 7-2 last time out and Leicester winning 5-2 at Manchester City.

Villa boss Dean Smith has just spoken to the media about his side's game with Leicester on Sunday.

“They went to Manchester City and won 5-2, and we were stung against them a couple of times last season, so we have to take our previous levels into the performance.”

Although Villa beat Leicester in last season's Carabao Cup semi-finals, they lost 4-1 at home to the Foxes in the league then 4-0 away in March.

“Last time we played there, we lost 4-0, so we know their quality," Smith added. "We turned a corner that night, and we can go and prove that on Sunday with our performance.”

  5. Liverpool agree Wilson loan fee with Cardiffpublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

Liverpool have agreed a £1.2m loan fee with Cardiff City for Harry Wilson.

Cardiff beat off competition from Championship rivals Swansea, Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Norwich City for the 23-year-old Wales international.

  6. Wilder rules out any signings for the Bladespublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

Sheff Utd v Fulham (Sun, 12:00 BST)

    Sheffield United

Don't expect any new signings today, Blades fans. Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has just had this to say: “The players that are in the building are the ones we’re going to go with. They’re the ones that will take us through to January.”

  7. Three signings expected by Blackburnpublished at 10:34 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

    BBC Radio Lancashire

Could be a busy day for Barnsley's Championship rivals Blackburn.

BBC Radio Lancashire believe there are three likely incomings at Ewood Park - Scottish left-back Barry Douglas on loan from Leeds, German midfielder Tom Trybull on loan from Norwich and 22-year-old goalkeeper Aynsley Pears on a free transfer from Middlesbrough.

  8. Barnsley to sign Kane from Liverpoolpublished at 10:26 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

    Mandeep Sanghera
    BBC Sport

Championship side Barnsley have agreed a £1.25m deal to sign midfielder Herbie Kane from Liverpool.

The Reds will retain a 15% sell-on clause in the deal for the 21-year-old.

Kane has made two appearances for Liverpool - both in the EFL Cup last season - and had previous loan spells at Hull City and Doncaster.

Luton were also interested in Kane, along with Hull and Portsmouth, but Barnsley put forward the best offer.

  9. They are out to get us - Solskjaerpublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

Newcastle v Man Utd (Sat, 20:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

It was the American author Joseph Heller who famously said 'just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you'.

I was reminded of that phrase when Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke this morning.

"Any chance from outside," the Norwegian said, "they want to create a division."

It was not obvious who 'they' were but presumably he was talking about media stories of a rift between him and midfielder Bruno Fernandes, plus speculation Mauricio Pochettino is being lined up as his replacement.

"We can’t listen to everyone on the outside," said Solskjaer. "Bruno has lost two league games since he came to the club in February. He is not used to losing. This is what happens when we do. Welcome to Man United."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was indeed asked about the claims of a row with midfielder Bruno Fernandes during the embarrassing 6-1 home defeat to Tottenham last time out.

Fernandes has rejected these claims and the Manchester United manager backed that up, saying they will not let critics create division at the club.

“Bruno said it, he spoke well, we are united and we have to stay together," said Solskjaer.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer launched a passionate defence of Harry Maguire during his news conference this morning.

"When Harry beats the number-one ranked team in the world in Belgium it's a normal day. Then you get the headlines when you get a sending off, that's football. You have to deal with it.

"Harry has got great resilience. He knows he will bounce back. He wants to play and work his way out of the last couple of games he's been criticised for.

"But he picked up a knock just before he came off the other night so we'll have a look at him today."

  12. 'Man Utd have a responsibility to protect the football pyramid'published at 10:03 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now spoken to the media and was asked for his thoughts on Project Big Picture.

"It's a definite that we, as one of the bigger clubs, have a responsibility to protect the football pyramid and smaller clubs," he said. "We have seen lately the effect this pandemic has had.

"The key thing is we want fans back in stadiums, which will help other clubs. I'm just glad talks have started and let's make the powers that be decide how we're going to do that."

  13. Wilson at centre of deadline day pursuitpublished at 09:58 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson is at the centre of huge interest from the Championship ahead of today’s 1700 BST transfer deadline.

Derby are keen on the Wales midfielder but Cardiff and Swansea are also in talks, whilst Nottingham Forest have also registered their interest in the 24-year-old.

It is understood Liverpool are looking for a loan fee for Wilson, who is keen on a move to get some playing time after making just one appearance – in the EFL Cup – for the Reds prior to the international break.

  15. 'I can't believe Man Utd will be as bad again'published at 09:43 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

Newcastle v Man Utd (Sat, 20:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC Football Expert

Manchester United have not had any problems scoring goals. Unfortunately for them, they have not been able to keep them out.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have only three points from three games, and they are lucky to have that many because they did not deserve to beat Brighton.

It clearly does not help that United captain Harry Maguire is having such a bad time at the moment, because he has been their most reliable centre-half.

I still think United will beat Newcastle, though, if only because I can't believe they will be as bad again as they were when they lost 6-1 to Tottenham. If they are, Solskjaer is going to be in serious trouble.

    Lawro's prediction: 1-2. Rema's prediction: 3-1.

  16. Premier League predictions: Lawro v Afrobeat star Remapublished at 09:36 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

In this week's Premier League predictions, Mark Lawrenson is up against singer, rapper and Afrobeat star Rema.

Rema - real name Divine Ikubor - has followed Manchester United since he was a boy growing up in Benin City, Nigeria, and got to know their star players by playing video games with his older brother.

"I love United because of him," the 20-year-old told BBC Sport. "He used to play Fifa against me as United, and he would always win - so I always saw them as the winning team!

"We ended up having arguments over who would get to play as them - but, when I got the chance, I got attached to players like Carlos Tevez, Cristiano Ronaldo, Edwin van der Sar and Wayne Rooney, before I even saw them play in real life."

Newcastle v Man Utd (Sat, 20:00 BST)

    BBC Sport

One of the subjects that is bound to come up during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's news conference is the form of skipper Harry Maguire.

The £80m defender was terrible in the 6-1 home defeat by Tottenham just before the international break and then was sent off in England's defeat by Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday.

It looked like he could do with a break - and might not have fully recovered from the incident in Greece - but with fitness doubts over Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof hardly in the best form either, it is tough to see how Solskjaer could leave Maguire out of Saturday's trip to Newcastle.

We may only be four game weeks and 38 games into the new 2020-21 season, but already we're seeing possibly one of the oddest campaigns ever in English football.

From new handball laws, to no fans present in stadiums, to high-scoring games and continuing video assistant referee controversy, it seems to be a Premier League season like no other.

So, now that the international break is over, what can you remember about arguably the most action-packed start to a Premier League season since, well, ever?

  20. West Ham close in on £25m Benrahmapublished at 09:11 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Said Benrahma's £25m move to West Ham from Brentford isn't quite complete yet - but there should be no issues beating the 17:00 BST transfer deadline.

The Hammers have looked at a number of attacking options after letting Felipe Anderson join Porto on loan earlier this month.

After having a bid for Josh King turned down by Bournemouth, manager David Moyes has gone after Benrahma, who played such a pivotal role in Brentford getting to the Championship play-off final last season.

The Hammers will pay an initial £25m, with a further £5m in add-ons.
