    Arsenal 0-1 Aston Villa

That's now been changed to a Bukayo Saka own goal, he actually put it into his own net trying to stop Trezeguet scoring.

Why I say terrible defending is that Arsenal let Villa have the ball for about a minute there around the penalty area. Ross Barkley waited about 10 seconds for Matt Targett to make a run in the build-up and Arsenal just let him - and then let him find Targett.

GOAL - Arsenal 0-1 Aston Villapublished at 24 mins

    Bukayo Saka own goal

Great play by Villa but questionable defending by Arsenal and the visitors are ahead (again).

Jack Grealish finds Matt Targett, whose low cross is bundled in by Trezeguet at the back post... or so I thought. A replay shows Bukayo Saka actually puts it into his own net before Trezeguet can get it.

  4. 'Arsenal giving Villa too much time to get their shape'published at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2020

    Arsenal 0-0 Aston Villa

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Aston Villa are doing well at the moment, they're very compact getting numbers across and trying to get back and keep the defensive line nice and tight. Douglas Luiz drops back and almost is in line with the defence, he almost becomes an extra centre-half and they're really congesting the middle of the park. At times Arsenal been a bit slow in transition moving the ball forward and giving Villa too much time to get back in shape.

Willian lays the free-kick off to Kieran Tierney, whose long-range shot is blocked.

    Arsenal 0-0 Aston Villa

Arsenal have a good minute of solid possession but it's just around their backline.

They eventually work it to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is fouled on the left wing.

    Arsenal 0-0 Aston Villa

Arsenal attack but left wing-back Bukayo Saka's cross is over everyone.

Not sure Kieran Tierney would have expected to be a central defender when he joined Arsenal.

    Arsenal 0-0 Aston Villa

These sides started the day level on 12 points, Villa have the better goal difference.

A draw would put Villa sixth and Arsenal eighth.

Max: What a joke of a decision. No one was getting to that shot. No one was really interfering with play. I feel personally cheated.

Adam: I'm an Arsenal fan but that VAR check is ridiculous. 5 minutes for that? The system has got to go. Should be 30 seconds max to check any decision otherwise I'm not interested in having VAR in the game at all.

Goo: As an Arsenal fan, i think that was unfair. Was a great strike

John McGinn has been involved in all the game's talking points so far, this time he clatters Alexandre Lacazette in the centre circle. Free-kick but no booking.

Emiliano Martinez was in Arsenal's goal the last time these sides met.

    Arsenal 0-0 Aston Villa

John McGinn almost gifts Arsenal a goal. His backpass to Emiliano Martinez is weak and Thomas Partey almost nips in. Martinez does well to bail his team-mate out and clear.

    Arsenal 0-0 Aston Villa

Eight and a half minutes gone and just maybe three minutes of that has been football.

No shots for either side yet, because that disallowed goal doesn't count as a shot.

There were four minutes and seven seconds in between the goal and it being disallowed.

Not sure what I think about that. Ross Barkley was in the way but there usually seems to be a high bar for interfering with play.

The goal is ruled out. Ross Barkley was offside and interfering with play, deem the officials.

We're in the fifth minute now and all that has happened is a shot after 48 seconds and a long VAR check.

  20. Postpublished at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2020

    Arsenal 0-1 Aston Villa

Martin Atkinson goes to the screen. Ross Barkley was offside. The question is was he interfering with play or could Bernd Leno see John McGinn's shot?
