Andrew Mithcell: March got the ball, and it’s not the kind of tackle where he’s out of control and wipes the man out after getting the ball. He gets a flick on the ball and a tiny touch on the man. Can’t see how you give that as a penalty. Good decision to overturn

That's great refereeing, to be big enough and say, "I made a mistake."

I think the right decision has been made.

Oh, he's overturned his decision! And you can see why. March got a touch on the ball before then catching Trezeguet.

Thing is, there will also be those arguing it should still be a penalty. He did catch the man. Grey areas.

But no penalty! Is that Villa's last chance gone?

Michael Oliver is coming over to look at this himself on the monitor. Big decision. One that needs to be right.

Another tired tackle. Hang on, he's won the ball. I don't think that's a penalty.

  6. PENALTY TO ASTON VILLApublished at 90+2 mins

    Aston Villa 1-2 Brighton

And now Villa have a penalty! With Lamptey barely off the pitch, March's clumsy tackle sends Trezeguet down in the box. It looks like he's caught him on the shin. The ref points to the spot.

It's for a late tackle on Grealish. Grealish has gone down the way that Jack Grealish does.

It's a late, tired tackle from Lamptey. It's cost him a red card.

    It's a harsh one.

  8. RED CARDpublished at 90+2 mins

    Aston Villa 1-2 Brighton

Some heads have gone a bit here. Grealish is booked after hauling a stricken Veltman up off the turf. Soon after, Lamptey earns him a second yellow and a red for catching Grealish late near his own box.

Potentially looks a bit harsh that, to me.

Why not put Mings up front in the closing stages? Watkins is not going to bully the Brighton back four.

Welbeck is firmly on lost cause chasing duty, but is doing what is required. All the onus is on Villa to make something happen.

Richard Browne: Villa got a bizarre fluke evening against Liverpool and played an abject Arsenal; other games suggest they’re a mid table side. Not surprised.

Lamptey into the book as he stretches and catches a Villa player. It's all hands to the pump.

Chance! A tackle on Watkins on the edge of the box presents the ball to Trezeguet but he shows no composure, lashing his effort over the bar.

Brighton are willingly conceding territory to Villa, with the proviso that they deny them space as soon as they get near the box. Villa are looking to get Grealish on the ball as often as they can for that moment of inspiration that need.

Brighton with that substitution, they've admitted they are just waiting for the counter now.

But they are sitting deeper and inviting that pressure. Can they handle hit?

Villa are driving forward, Brighton digging in deeper and deeper. Dangerous game, potentially for both sides. We've already seen Albion his effectively on the break once.
