There's a lot to like about Brighton. But they have some worrying deficiencies too. Chief amongst them is the fact they have conceded more set piece goals than any other side in the Premier League this season (9).

Graham Potter will be thrilled at half-time not just with the lead but the way they've defended in such dangerous areas. It's been an incredible first-half of football considering we've only had one goal.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We didn’t do enough in the first half and got off to an awful start. And against the big boys the one thing you can’t do is gift them an opener, it’d hard enough.

"Second half I thought we were much better, we had a few opportunities and in the big key moments you have to take one of them.

"So in the second half there was a lot of pleasing points, but it was a very difficult afternoon against an excellent Chelsea team.

"It’s a soft goal we’ve given away and the second is a bit soft too. We have to be a lot more cunning and create a foul there.

"It’s always difficult against a top, top team, they are as good a side as you see in Europe at the minute. But we have to have a bit more belief in what we do, and we will."

On the continued absence of fans: "They stayed with us in the game last year and the crowd was unbelievable in their attitude towards the team. All the big clubs miss the atmosphere. Of course we would like them back but so would everyone else too."

Attacking chances, end to end. The game has never really settled and both teams have looked frail at times. Just looking at the Brighton back three, the three centre-halves they will probably just be thinking, we can't deal with everything that's being thrown at us we've just got to hold this area in front of us and defend it with our lives and that's what they've done.

Brilliant game of football. Frantic, full-blooded and comprising chance after chance. Welbeck's lovely chipped finish is the difference.

Villa began the game knowing a 4-0 win would send them top. They've fashioned enough good chances to be up by that already!
