A little, promising spell of Newcastle possession comes to an end when Joelinton shifts his weight too far in one direction to then check and move in the other to collect a Ciaran Clark pass.

No surprise about the way Newcastle are playing, and why. They played exactly the same way in this fixture last season, and came away with a 94th minute winner. They'll look to keep it to 0-1 until the last 10 minutes, then push forward to try to snatch an equaliser.

Well, the home side have started with a bit of intent, pressing high. But Hayden's foul eases the pressure on Chelsea.

Newcastle's job just got a lot tougher. Jamaal Lascelles is unable to continue. He came out for the second half, but after a couple of jogs he made it clear his game was done. He is replaced by Fabian Schar.

Noel: Surprised people are criticising Newcastle's play, haven't you seen Chelsea's shoot themselves in the foot party trick? At 0-1 anything can happen.

@kinderjurgen: This has 1-1 written all over it, late Newcastle equalizer with their only shot on target

Aston Villa v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

Aston Villa winger Bertrand Traore made his comeback from a groin strain on Monday when he played for Burkina Faso.

Kortney Hause could also be fit but fellow defenders Bjorn Engels and Frederic Guilbert remain out with respective thigh and side injuries.

Brighton captain Lewis Dunk has served a three-match ban and will start.

Aaron Connolly and Solly March are back in contention but there are doubts over Leandro Trossard, who has had a muscle injury, and the ill Davy Propper.

Re Phil (1307) No Newcastle fan in their right mind thinks we should be challenging for the title. Just as no football fan in their right mind should think this is an acceptable standard of football for a 'premier league' side

Wait minute. Why are Conference sides getting dragged into this? Totally unfair comparison unless you're talking about Chesterfield, of course...

Well, Chelsea have utterly dominated that half. But they're only 1-0 up. The Blues will definitely be the happier of the two, but that comes with caveats.

Newcastle centre-back and captain Jamaal Lascelles is down for the second time this half. He doesn't look happy. It would be yet another big blow for the home side. Surely get through to the break and reassess? Yep, that looks to be the plan.

You're still gonna be tearing your hair out as a Newcastle fan, but they are at least showing signs of life. Saint-Maximin is the main source of it.

Mendy still hasn't made a save, though.

And now Jacob Murphy is in the book for a very clumsy foul on Mason Mount.

No Gary (RE: 12:45) Bruce has a plan and is executing it perfectly. It's just that plan isn't 'pretend Newcastle are a great side capable of winning the league' but instead 'we are a mid table side doing what we can against a better team.'

Newcastle are now starting to draw on the fact that they are just one goal down, playing on a bit of Chelsea nervousness.

Saint-Maximin cuts inside in the box and sees an effort deflected just over. The resulting corner comes to nothing.

And there is a further little warning sign for Chelsea, as Newcastle almost work an opening for Jamal Lewis. Thankfully for the visitors, Mendy is alert and charges out to claim at the defender's feet.

    Should absolutely be 2-0.

Abraham sets up Werner, who has just Darlow to beat but pulls his shot wide.

We're just on the cusp of that nagging feeling for Chelsea that the chances they're missing could come back to bite them.

That goal should have been disallowed. Chilwell kicked the back of Fernandez's leg. Other way round that gets given as a penalty these days so when the defender gets kicked, even if it's barely anything, it has to be the same surely?
