Fulham will be the happier, at the moment, you would never know they were in the bottom three the way they are playing - showing aggression, fight, trying to get forward. Scott Parker watching this at home will be very happy with his side's performance so far.

The referee has no other choice here, Tyrone Mings doesn't win the initial ball and gets too tight to Wilfried Zaha and puts an arm out to stop him and block him. It's a definite yellow and now they've left themselves exposed at the back Aston Villa.

Very 0-0. The guys upstairs chose the right game to have on the box, it's fair to say.

  5. RED CARD - Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa)published at 44 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Crystal Palace

England centre-half Tyrone Mings had been booked five minutes earlier for some pushing with Wilfried Zaha, now Mings has a second yellow and he's off.

It's another incident involving Zaha, who gets to a ball first, nudges it past the Villa man, who blocks off the Palace winger.

Referee Anthony Taylor sends Mings back to the dressing room and if Villa are to win this, they'll have to do it with 10.

Ollie Watkins is such a handful. Once again, he sprints past Scott Dann as if he's not there and the cross falls to Anwar El Ghazi, whose strike is parried by Vicente Guaita and Jack Grealish can't get a shot off before he is crowded out.

    Fulham 0-0 Southampton

Fulham attack down their left and put in a cross that doesn't find a team-mate, Southampton go down the other end and do the same.

This is a toothless game to date.

  8. YELLOW CARDS - Zaha and Mingspublished at 39 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Crystal Palace

Some pushing and shoving going on involving Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha and Aston Villa's Tyrone Mings.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 38 mins

    Fulham 0-0 Southampton

Bobby Decrordova-Reid rather flies into a challenge which gets the Southampton bench excited. He wins the ball but goes over it on his way through and collects a chunk of James Ward-Prowse.

Daniel Quirk: Villa look like a completely different team from their relegation battle last season. Grealish, Traore and Watkins all look so dangerous. They should easily finish top half this season

A nice spin on the edge of the penalty area by Anwar El Ghazi to give himself enough space for a shot, but the strike doesn't match the pirouette and he drags his low shot wide of the post.

You know what you're going to get with Shane Long. He's industrious, he'll work hard, put defenders under pressure and just be a pest all game.

Sometimes that's what you need to create space for the likes of Che Adams.

Southampton have been perked up by that chance and look a better side now. They're certainly moving the ball better.

Palace's Luka Milivojevic floats the free-kick over the wall, but it's a good take above his head by the jumping Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

What an effort from James Ward-Prowse, unbelievable. The boy's technique is second to none. Che Adams follows in well but gets there too quickly and can't adjust his feet. He ran in with that much pace that the ball has bounced up to his midriff.

Andy Singh: Wouldn't it be easier if the referee went over to the monitor whist a #VAR, external decision is pending so he can give his input? How long!?!

Nathan: OMG a correct VAR decision. Pinch me

We're on our Way: VAR is not the problem, it’s the referees in the VAR room. It’s not a penalty and it’s definitely not a clear and obvious penalty. The game didn’t need that stoppage, well played Anthony Taylor however

And now Southampton should be ahead!

James Ward-Prowse lines up his trademark free-kick and slams the crossbar from 25 yards, what a strike!

It should be a tap-in for Che Adams but he's foxed by the spin on the ball and actually misses it altogether and it slips away from him.

    How?!

What an opportunity for Fulham. It's a great cross from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and I'm watching the replay thinking Anguissa should do better.
