What do you make of this Argentina kit? Rumour has it, coach Carlos Bilardo was concerned about the soaring temperatures for this midday kick-off in Mexico City, but asked the Argentine kit manufacturer to come up with new shirts at too short notice.

Instead, according to Fifa, he sent a member of his coaching staff to the shops in the Mexican capital to find a new one. He returned with two, and Diego Maradona is said to have had the final say on the one Argentina wore.

Some makeshift Argentinian Football Association badges were quickly sewn on to each jersey and numbers ironed on the back - and he we are!

More from former England captain Bobby Moore, speaking in the Sunday Telegraph: "It's impossible to make comparisons with other great players, but the one Diego Maradona reminds me of most is Johan Cruyff.

"He had the same fluency on the ball and could damage you from nothing. But he didn't have Maradona's incredible strength.

This was an England team that was starting to fancy its chances in Mexico after a dreadful start when they lost to Portugal and drew against Morocco.

There was no stand-out team in the tournament and Bobby Robson had the World Cup's in-form marksman in Everton's Gary Lineker while his Goodison Park team-mate Peter Reid, who had come into the side as a result of Bryan Robson's shoulder injury and Ray Wilkins' suspension, had revitalised the midfield.

Argentina were largely workmanlike but in one man they had the world's greatest player, the greatest threat to all of England's ambitions and someone seemingly on a personal mission to win the World Cup, even if he had to do it by himself.

Before England's quarter-final against Argentina, Gary Lineker had averaged a goal every 71.2 minutes in the tournament (five goals). Crisp.

Gary Lineker has been on fire, the Michael Laudrup inspired-Denmark were perhaps the most exciting team of the tournament, living up to their "Danish Dynamite" tag until they imploded in the second round - losing 5-1 to Spain with Emilio Butragueno scoring four goals.

But there's only one man who everyone is talking about in Mexico. Diego Maradona.

The Napoli man has been in sensational form, leaving defenders for dead with his near-perfect mix of touch, strength, pace, power and precision.

Argentina make two changes from the win against Uruguay. In come Hector Enrique and Julio Olarticoechea, with Pedro Pasculli and Oscar Garre dropping out.

Of course, the one to watch out for is their diminutive playmaker, Diego Maradona.

Just the one change for England, and it comes at centre-half with QPR man Terry Fenwick coming back into the side after serving his one-match suspension. He replaces Alvin Martin and will once again partner Ipswich's Terry Butcher.

Up front, Peter Beardsley keeps his place alongside the revelation of the tournament, Gary Lineker. Lineker is level at the top of the golden boot standings with Spain forward Emilio Butragueno and Brazil man Careca. All three have five goals each.
