Southampton just look so good in possession. The fluidity of the movement from the front two. Danny Ings always running in behind, stretching the defence. Che Adams, hassling and hurrying. The game really falls into place when they go one nil up.

    All Leeds.

Another chance goes begging as Mateusz Klich shanks over from outside the area.

    Leicester 0-1 Everton

Great response from Leicester, and they should be level. James Justin delivers a cracking ball from the right on the run and Jamie Vardy is free to meet it. He plants the header hard and true but right at a relieved Robin Olsen.

Only Robin van Persie (46) and Olivier Giroud (40) have scored more PL goals at the Emirates than Theo Walcott (38).

    Leeds 0-0 Newcastle

The initial play to work the opening is excellent from Raphinha, taking the ball in his stride and jinking away from two defenders but the Brazilian is off balance and screws a shot wide.

What a fabulous finish from Theo Walcott. We spoke about Arsenal looking to exploit Southampton's areas inside the full-back and centre-half, well, what a sucker punch that was. A little bit fortunate in terms of the ricochet but you knew exactly what Walcott was going to do. It's a delightful dink over the top. He executed that fantastically!

At Elland Road, Jack Harrison drills a low cross from the left but it sails all the way across the area and out of play.

    Richarlison (21 mins)

Keeper!? Should Kasper Schmeichel be doing better there?

    Yes.

That said it's a really good hit from Richarlison, cutting in from the left about 25 yards out, he holds off James Justin and arrows a low, curling shot toward the bottom corner.

It's not right in the corner though. Schmeichel gets a firm hand on it but can only push it into the side of the net. Everton rewarded for a strong 10 minute spell.

  9. goal

GOAL - Arsenal 0-1 Southamptonpublished at 17 mins

    Theo Walcott

    Hah, had to be him!

Awful defending from Arsenal, two players getting in a muddle and Che Adams nicks the ball away.

There is a gaping hole in the Gunners backline, Adams slips a ball through to Theo Walcott.

The former Arsenal man bears down on goal, sees Bernd Leno approaching him before chipping a delightfully cool finish into the net.

And he runs off to celebrate with arms outstretched. Nice.

    Leicester 0-0 Everton

Brilliant pass from Allan, swerved over the top and into the run of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The striker looks to hold it up and goes down under pressure from Wilfred Ndidi - no real penalty appeal though. It was a risk from the makeshift centre-back to go in.

  11. CLOSE!published at 18:16 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2020

    Arsenal 0-0 Southampton

England U21 international Eddie Nketiah cuts in from the left but drills a low shot straight at Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

    Leicester 0-0 Everton

Better from Everton as they pepper the Leicester penalty area with a succession of Glyfi Sigurdsson set-pieces. Wesley Fofana heads them away smartly.

  13. CLOSE!published at 18:15 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2020

    Arsenal 0-0 Southampton

Free-kick king James Ward-Prowse whips in another excellent delivery, this time from the left.

It is viciously swung in and arrowing towards the net, but Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has to react to push the ball to safety.

Jordan Pickford has been dropped by Everton tonight, a chance for Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy to stake his claim for the England shirt?

    Leicester 0-0 Everton

Twelve minutes of Leicester looking slick and sharp so far but not a shot on target to report. It's a three-way tie for the lead of the Premier League as it stands.

Good start from Southampton, they look comfortable on the ball - which you would expect with the form that they are in. They are passing it around really well, short combinations, switching the play, using all the areas of the pitch.

Gareth Hollyman: I saw a comment about Arsenal having world class players but how many of them would other Top 8 teams take, really? Auba, Saka, Tierney ... that’s it.

Poor start for Arteta but only 4 wins off the top, only 12 games played and everyone dropping points to everyone else. Even the top teams have dropped 11 points already. It's never over til it's over.

If you are an Arsenal youngster, seeing how the team has been performing in the Premier League, you have got to be banging on the door of Mikel Arteta. This is a big chance tonight.

Arsenal press the Saints deep towards their own area but the south coast side are not fazed, popping off a couple of triangles to pass their way out of trouble.

    Lovely stuff, full of confidence.
