    Swansea City 0-0 Reading

A superb save apiece now from the two goalkeepers.

Rafael this time has to be at his best to deny Andre Ayew heading Swansea ahead.

Cross from the right by Korey Smith is met by Ayew and his powerful effort on the bounce is clawed away by Rafael's right hand.

    Swansea City 0-0 Reading

It's a fiesty encounter this one even if it's lacking some goal action.

Both sets of players going in full pelt for 50/50 challenges.

That new pitch could well be getting carved up if this carries on.

  3. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Swansea City 0-0 Reading

Andre Ayew seeing the ball coming forward once again for Swansea and he ducks and weaves his way into space for a shooting chance.

Left-footed effort skids off the new pitch but Rafael can gather easily in Reading's goal.

    Swansea City 0-0 Reading

Swansea with a couple of free-kicks inside Reading's half but the visitors have the aerial dominance to clear both one from the left and one from the right.

Organised display so far from the Royals.

  5. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Swansea City 0-0 Reading

Best chance of the match so far falls to Reading.

Tom McIntryre bursts into the Swansea box from Michael Olise's diagonal ball and his left-foot effort is well stopped by Freddie Woodman and parried away from danger.

    Swansea City 0-0 Reading

Reading trying their best to stretch Swansea's shape as full-backs Tomas Esteves and Tom McIntyre hug their respective touchlines.

Swansea having to show some patience off the ball by staying disciplined until they concede a free-kick just inside their own half.

    Swansea City 0-0 Reading

Well, if the start of Brentford v Bournemouth earlier was fast food, this is more of a leisurely banquet by contrast.

However, Andre Ayew wants to liven up the menu by having a go at an audacious overhead kick from Jay Fulton's cross from the left.

Acrobatic but well over the crossbar and harmlessly behind.

The Liberty Stadium's new playing surface looks close to perfect and the early signs are that both teams are enjoying playing on it.

Swansea did get a taste of the relaid pitch in a pre-match training session, when the players' verdict was positive.

Swansea boss Steve Cooper said he would wait to see how the surface played before giving his verdict on it, but he must be pleased with what he has seen so far.

It is hard to believe Swansea's game against Barnsley, when the pitch appeared to cut up badly, was just 11 days ago.

    Swansea City 0-0 Reading

Half a sniff of goal for a moment for Jamal Lowe as the ball is slipped through to him on the edge of the penalty area.

But Tom McIntyre and Michael Morrison have the force to combine and clear their lines for Reading.

Plenty of the ball for Swansea but not a huge amount in attacking areas so far.

Jamal Lowe and Andre Ayew their front two this evening looking for some decent supply from midfield.

Reading trying to get into a rhythm in this one early doors.

Alfa Semedo and Michael Olise try to combine but Swansea cut out the threat on the edge of their penalty area.

New pitch at the Liberty Stadium and I have to say, I'll need to get the number of the Swansea ground staff so that they can come and do a bit of midwinter repair work to my lawn on this evidence.

    It's gleaming bright green.

Cagey start so far with Swansea seeing most of the ball but nothing in terms of a clear-cut chance.

Swansea in their traditional white home strip and Reading in their red away kit for this one.

Not long to go then before we get started at the Liberty Stadium.

Both sets of players are getting ready to step out on to the pitch.

Let's hope this one matches the excitement levels of the first fixture this evening which saw Brentford come from behind to beat Bournemouth.

    Swansea v Reading (20:00 GMT)

Tonight's game will be played on a new surface at the Liberty Stadium after it was relaid over Christmas.

The tractors moved in straight after Swansea's win against Barnsley on 19 December to rip up the old pitch, with Swans boss Steve Cooper saying it needed to be done to preserve the "integrity" of the Championship.

Winter weather and a disease which affected the grass in the autumn saw it cut up badly in the weeks leading up to the festive season.

It's certainly looking resplendent under the floodlights...

Swansea's climb up the table this month has been in part thanks to their watertight defence. It's the meanest in the division by some stretch with 12 goals conceded in 21 games.

Five clean sheets in their past six matches, only punctuated by defeat at Derby, has given Steve Cooper's side belief they can return to the Premier League following relegation in 2018.

Reading's form has been patchy, but their amazing start to the season means they're still right in the promotion hunt.

A win at the Liberty Stadium would take them level on points with their high-flying opponents.
