  5. 'We expected a battle'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2021

    Crystal Palace 2-0 Sheffield United

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace defender James Tomkins speaking to Premier League Productions: "It feels like it's been a long time coming. Some games we've played well and got unlucky but we've had a few bad results.

"We knew it would be a battle, they're fighting for their lives and we had to start brightly. We moved on from there and put it to bed before half-time. In the Premier League you can't start slowly. We didn't take many risks, it was a professional performance."

On Eberechi Eze's goal: "He has that ability, I see it every day in training. When someone runs at that pace, with that skill, it's a nightmare to handle. We have so much talent and bundles of goals in the team so it's just about keeping it solid at the back."

  7. 'We are killing ourselves'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2021

    Crystal Palace 2-0 Sheffield Utd

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United midfielder Oliver Norwood: "We did not start great, conceded a poor goal and at this moment in time every deflection or bounce of the ball goes against us. The second goal kills us, 20 seconds from half time. We kill ourselves as we have done plenty of times this season.

"Football matches are 90 minutes and we conceded after five, the second goal was more disappointing. I don't think we created too much.

"We are killing ourselves because we have to score three to win the game today. We need a clean sheet as well.

"Antwoine Hackford was with us in pre-season and is in today because of injuries. It would have been a dream debut if he stuck his chance away.

"We have to keep believing, keep working hard, there are still plenty of points to play for but we need a win."

  8. 'I just saw a lot of space'published at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2021

FT: Crystal Palace 2-0 Sheffield United

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze speaking to Sky Sports on his goal: "I just saw quite a lot of space and thought I may as well take the chance, thankfully I did. To be fair when I got into shooting range I just thought I'd try my luck. I used the defender because the keeper hasn't got the best vision.

"It was a good goal and I'm grateful for the opportunity to come on. To take my chance is great. Whenever you're on the bench you want to come on and make a difference.

"We've struggled the last couple of games so it's massive for us. The manager said we had to stick together and work hard and the results would come. It's important to stay together as a team."

FT: Crystal Palace 2-0 Sheffield Utd

    Steve Sidwell
Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

A huge three points for Crystal Palace - after recent results, at Leicester there were positives and Roy Hodgson would've been disappointed to not get all three points. They've backed this up with a good solid performance today - against yes an under par Sheffield Untied but you can only play what's in front of you and they've played well today.

A result and a performance that they needed.
