    Sheffield United 1-0 Newcastle

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder talking to Sky Sports: "Delighted, I just want to get home to the wife. It has been a long time coming for a lot of people in this football club, far too long. I am delighted for the players and the supporters.

"Down to 10 men and the penalty made it easier but I would be disappointed if that took away from a decent performance.

"I have said all along, we have been competitive in 90 per cent of the games. We have to accept the results have not been good enough. A little bit of belief in the players from a win in the FA Cup and backed up today.

"It only means something if we build on it. We have to move on from this. Still a long way to go and a load of points behind. The season isn't done in January. We have a big task and a huge challenge but, if we keep playing like that, then we can make it interesting."

  2. Wolves to pinch it?published at 20:10 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2021

    Wolves v Everton (20:15 GMT)

Both of these teams won in the FA Cup at the weekend, although Everton made hard work of Championship strugglers Rotherham before squeaking through in extra time.

Wolves edged out Crystal Palace at Molineux and, although they are on a run of only one win in seven in the Premier League, I am going for them to get another home win here.

    Prediction: 2-1

  3. 'United have enough to beat Burnley'published at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2021

Burnley v Man Utd (20:15 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Manchester United have got a few injury problems but I still think they will have enough to beat Burnley.

The Clarets are in good form, especially at Turf Moor where they have taken 10 points from the past 12 available to help their climb out of the bottom three.

But Manchester United have impressed on the road this season and I am backing them to get another win this time.

    Prediction: 0-2

  4. Man Utd enjoying life on the roadpublished at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2021

Burnley v Man Utd (20:15 GMT)

Manchester United are the only unbeaten side away from home in this season's Premier League (W6 D1) and have not lost any of their last 14 league games on the road.

All six of their league away wins this campaign have come after they conceded the opening goal.

They have scored 21 goals away from home, more than any other top-flight team - but they are yet to keep a clean sheet on their travels.

  5. 'We played more like ourselves'published at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2021

    Sheffield United 1-0 Newcastle

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United's John Egan talking to Sky Sports: "It is about time we got the win. As soon as Billy stood up I knew he was going to score.

"We played more like ourselves, positive, front foot. Newcastle are hard to break down, were solid even with 10 men. We were due that bit of luck though.

"There is a long way to go yet. We know it is a tough ask but we look to the next game."

  6. 'Everyone has written us off'published at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2021

    Sheffield United 1-0 Newcastle

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp on Sky Sports: "It's a huge relief, I'm so happy for the boys. It was important we got a win soon. It was scrappy at times but in the first half I thought we were brilliant.

"We got the luck we deserved and saw it through.

"I thought we played with a lot of confidence and this win can give us more belief. Everyone has written us off, the pressure is off.

"We've not had a great time in the last few months but we've got to keep our heads high now. We're good enough to do it.

"He did touch it with his hand, I gave him a nudge. The referee made the decision. I love scoring goals for Sheffield United."

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been trying to play down the significance of his side going top of the Premier League tonight.

Yet the statistics around it are startling for United.

They have not been top of the Premier League under Solskjaer. The last time they were in that position was after they had beaten Leicester in August 2018, which was the first game of the season, before anyone else had played.

Technically, they need to win to secure top spot after match round 17 - Manchester City have games in hand. It would be the latest they have been in pole position since Sir Alex Ferguson's final season.

    Cheers Tom!

Barely two months ago Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was described as a manager under pressure but in just over 90 minutes he could take his Manchester United side top of the table. Funny how quickly things can change in football.

Will they get the result they need tonight, or will an improving Burnley put a spanner in the works?

Sean Gordon: Been a fan of NUFC for 29 years and don’t care about results anymore. Negative formations negative passion truly upsets me that Newcastle have come to this

Do I feel hard done by for that goal?? No. Do I feel hard done by that Mike Ashley bought my club 13 years ago and then gave me a succession of joke managers ending with Bruce?? Yes.
