Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to BBC Sport: "Really happy overall. Really positive performance, collective and individually we looked really solid and convincing from the first whistle.

"It took us a little bit longer than I expected to score the first goal but I rally like the chemistry, cohesion and rhythm the team played with.

"I asked them to attack better, have more options in certain areas but without losing the structure that is needed to control Newcastle’s good players up front. When we did it we were efficient and took our chances.

"[Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang] needed that for his confidence and the team needs that to be successful. We need him at his best. We were missing his goals, we all know that so to have them back is great for the team."

On his young players: "They are doing really well because they have the senior ones pushing them, coaching them, helping them all the time. I really like the chemistry."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta tells BBC Sport "it is always sad when you see a player of his stature leave a club" when he's asked about Mesut Ozil.

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “We gave as good as we got and got into ourselves some decent opportunities but that little bit of confidence has ebbed away for sure. We were caught in the second half where we didn’t see it coming from the first-half performance.

“I certainly think in the first half we got ourselves into decent positions but that little bit of quality has gone as a confidence thing and that happens when you are on a run like we are.

“The only way it comes back is with a couple of victories. We just have to keep working at it.

“We have tried. To win a game you have to score a goal. We always knew we entering a really difficult run of games. To play Arsenal, Leicester, Liverpool and Manchester City we always knew it was going to be difficult against these top teams.

“You have seen their [the players] approach. We are disappointed because we have been caught trying to get forward. Two passes and they are in on our goal. That is something we have to learn from and understand. The reason we have been defending deep was to avoid situations like that. We have to get the balance right and we will keep working on it."

On his own position: “I am trying to do the best I possibly can as always but you will have to ask others about that.”

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce speaking to Sky Sports: "The first half we got ourselves into decent positions but didn't take advantage of it. I didn't see us going 2-0 down just after the hour. We got caught high up the pitch and were punished. We repeated it again five minutes later.

"We are having a difficult moment. That bit of confidence ebs away at you. We have to keep working away and hope that confidence returns. We have done all week - training to get people in the box and we have probably been punished.

"It's getting that balance right. Unfortunately, throwing bodies forward to try to score to win the match and we have been punished."

On playing with two strikers: "We have played that a lot this season. We have got the ability to change. In the five games we have won, we have played with two strikers so it's not alien to us. The one thing we have to do to win a match is to score a goal. We defended well again in the first half but we have to be more creative in the final third.

"It was a big improvement in the first half [from the defeat to Sheffield United], that's for sure. We were still beaten by a dubious penalty [in that game]. I have seen more improvements today but we were caught just after half time which has cost us the match.

"You will have tough moments if you're in the Premier League and in the bottom half. We have to dust ourselves down, get that confidence back and try and win games wherever we can."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to Sky Sports: "In the first half it took us a while to break a structure like this. We had big chances that we didn't score. We were in total control of the game so it was about keeping that right, keeping it simple and attacking the box. Then we produced the moments of the goals.

"I thought [Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang] had two or three really big chances in the first half which he didn't score. But those goals today will give him good confidence so that's good for the team."

Was he ill when he came off? "Yeah, he had to go in so we had to change it."

On the young players: "I know what they are capable of doing. They put a smile on my face. That is merit to them and their team-mates. Their performances were extraodinary. The expectation will be high with them so we have to take them through the right path. It's a mixture of energy, passion and a little bit of immaturity at times which is good as you don't play as tense. They did really well."

On Thomas Partey's performance: "I am really happy. He got better and better as the game went on. He has a big influence and gave us things which were different from any other player. We have to protect him as he's not played that much."

On Mesut Ozil: "He's in Turkey now. He is going through the medical and there is some paperwork to do. When the deal is done we will make an announcement."

Arsenal have kept five consecutive clean sheets in all competitions for the first time since February 2009 (6 in total in that run).

Arsenal's Emile Smith Rowe speaking to Sky Sports: "We all enjoyed it so much as we are coming together as a team. We are really happy with the win.

"I feel like we are coming together as a group. We are so much stronger now. Everyone is getting fit and together on the training pitch. It showed.

"I have been a bit unfortunate with injuries but the manager has given me a chance. I am so grateful and I just want to repay him. Any chance I have I want to show I am good enough.

"I've been abroad and in the Championship and it has developed me so much off the pitch. I feel like I have matured as a person and it's helped me in my journey."

On playing with other young players at Arsenal: "It's great because we have all played together from a young age. To be on the pitch together it's a dream for us. When we get on the pitch together I think it shows how good we can play together."

Who has been your biggest influence in the Arsenal side? "Alexandre Lacazette, playing with him up top, really helps me. He gives me a lot of confidence off the pitch and he talks to me a lot."

What influence has manager Mikel Arteta had on you? "He tells me so much to play free, clear my mind and be confident. If I make a mistake he tells me to carry on. I'm so happy to play for a manager like Mikel and to get these opportunities.

"Growing up, I have always tried to play one-touch. If I know what I want to do before the ball arrives, why not play one touch?"

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live Sport: "Very important three points, we deserved the three points today I think and it was a good game.

"After the draw with Crystal Palace, we knew we had to take the three points today, to keep going and be positive."

On Thomas Partey: "He is very important to our team. He brings aa lot of experience on a high level and he showed today how important he is for us and we our so happy."

On the youngsters in Arsenal's team: "Our job is to keep going with the young guys in front of us. We have to push these young guys to keep improving and keep going because we have took a lot of points but it is a long season ahead of us. Very important to go step-by-step.

"[Emile Smith Rowe and Bakayo Saka] have a lot of talent and work hard and the guys are, first off, very good guys and they work very hard and this is the key.

On goalscorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: "He was always ready. There are always moments where things aren't going so well but he showed one more time today how important he is for us and I'm so happy for him. I hope he can continue like this."

Newcastle United

Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles speaking to Sky Sports: "They have quality in the team and have some fast players in there. We let it slip. We tried to be attacking but we were too open at the back.

"In the first 45 minutes, I thought it was anyone's game. When you go and try to win the game against these sorts of teams, that's when they can hurt you.

"We had a gameplan and tried to stick to it as well as we could. It never helps when you let goals in like that and it's hard to come back from it. We need to get back to the drawing board and re-group."

It should have been a lot more for Arsenal tonight. Once the second goal went in Newcastle's confidence just disappeared.

Newcastle have got no mobility in the midfield, they can't press and haven't got the pace. But it would be difficult for any manager at the moment, their confidence is shattered and it's a really challenging time because Newcastle need players.

But when Bruce gets the players, he has to put them in the right positions because for me tonight, playing Joelinton on the left, didn't work.
