Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho speaking to Sky Sports: "I saw two different halves. We made two mistakes in a row, one hit the post, and one was a goal. I think the boys felt too much that goal we conceded, and the half was a sad half. In the second half, for 25-30 minutes I saw a team with a different soul, a team that was ready to give everything, ready to gamble, and the way we finished we deserved more than what we got.

"I go home with positive feelings towards my boys because in the last 30 minutes they showed they wanted everything but defeat. We didn’t start well, the goal was kind of….the team was a bit sad, and to concede at the beginning brought more sadness. The second half was different, the spirit was good, people trying really hard, there was some fatigue but I leave with a positive feeling.

"We tried to start with a team that would give Son the same dynamic we are used to. There is no replacement for Harry, but we tried with Bale to try to connect with him and we were not successful, but I am not speaking about Bale, I am speaking about us.

"[Carlos] Vinicius is a different player, we tried to change the direction of the game and he brought new energy. The reality is the team improved. We are in a difficult moment – results, injuries, self-esteem, a team with confidence is better than a team with sadness."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Graham Potter to BBC Sport: "I'm delighted for the players and our supporters because it's important we improve our home form. It's the best [perfromance] in terms of the opponent. When you look at the game, it's a really nice goal and a clean sheet.

"I was more than a little bit concerned [about not taking other chances] because of how football is but the players showed resilience and dug in when they needed to.

"We had the quality to score a really good goal, we couldn't add to it but a 1-0 win says a lot about the character of the team.

"I'm delighted with everything about the game tonight to be honest. There's a lot of football to play, whatever points we have now is not enough. We have to keep fighting for everything until the last kick."

More from Jose Mourinho to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I can imagine that the team when it loses is a sad team, the reaction after that defeat was not phenomenal, the fact that you lose I don’t like to speak on behalf of the players but they feel too much the absence of a player like Harry [Kane].

"We didn’t start well, we had a positive conversation at half time and I passed to them the feelings they needed and the second half was much better.

"It’s not about the players, I told them there is no replacement for Harry Kane. In the first half we tried to give the dynamic that give us the success with a number of goals, which is the connection with Son. We changed in the second half to playing with a clear target man, that gave us more energy, more runs, more aggression, and in the second half we were much better."

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "Not good in the first half, better in the second. We didn’t start well, we started with some mistakes that lead to a ball that hit the post and then the goal.

"The team showed in the first half that it was too sad to play football. When you are too sad, you have no energy, enthusiasm or confidence, and that was what the team showed in the first half.

"The second half, I am much happier, they showed not a phenomenal performance, we didn’t even turn the result but a different performance – more intensity and more dynamic.

"We were dominant in the second half and deserved a better result."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton's Pascal Gross speaking to BBC Sport: "We're really pleased today with the peformance. We have had good performances at home but we couldn't get a win and have been unlucky at times.

"When you win against a team like Tottenham you need a big performance. Today it was a good team perfromance.

"Every game is different. We had some games we should win but every team [in the Premier League] is hard to play. You have to fight for every point. We know this league isn't easy. It's very big for us."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Graham Potter speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It’s our best performance this season and last. From start to finish we did what we needed to do, created some chances, scored a really good goal, good attitude around the pitch, good quality, against a top opponent but I thought closer to a 2-0 than a 1-0. I am really proud of the players.

"You always think do you need a second goal? It’s football, anything can happen. 1-0 tells us a lot about the team’s character, it’s an important win for us.

"Another clean sheet is a positive and I don’t have to answer questions about our run at home! We are in a good moment but we know we have to play well against Liverpool."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton's Leandro Trossard speaking to Sky Sports: "It’s a great result, we were nearly there against Fulham but it’s a sweet one. We deserved it, we worked hard and had a lot of chances. We always try to finish off those actions

"I’m really happy for the team, to get a win at home as well, it’s special and we need to go on. We wanted to go at them, not let them play from the back. We defended well, kept it to nil and it’s a great result.

"You play one of the better teams and one chance can be enough, the whole team worked hard for it.

"We knew they would come at us, especially after half time but we worked hard and deserved it. It’s a confidence boost, we have worked hard all season, now we have won at home and we have a taste for more."

Tottenham have won just three of their last 13 Premier League games in which Harry Kane has not featured, and none of their last four (D1 L3).

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho speaking to BBC Sport: "We didn't start well. They could have scored immediately when they hit the post.

"In the first half I felt the team was probably too sad with the goal conceded and the situation. There was a lack of energy. In the last 25, 30 minutes they gave everything but of course with some limitations. We couldn't score but at the same time gave them the chance to counter-attack.

"The boys showed great spirit in the second half and the boys showed they are suffering and they tried to fight against that sadness.

"They tried, so I have nothing negative to say about them. I leave the game with a good feeling about my boys because they tried hard in the second half.

"We tried everything but they defended everything, brought on another centre-back, and it was not possible for us to score."

Spurs just didn't turn up, they didn't look that interested. Vinicius had a chance that he fashioned himself. Brighton looked comfortable and played really well.

Brighton will not think they are out of it yet, although they have put distance between them and Fulham. It seems to be coming together for Brighton

This is Brighton’s first home win in 15 Premier League games at the Amex Stadium, since beating Arsenal in June 2020.

That previous victory was 225 days ago.

Brighton were well worth their victory.

And what an important three points it is.

Graham Potter's side are seven points clear of the bottom three, and just one point behind Burnley and Newcastle directly above them.

Brighton finally win at home!

Moussa Sissoko's cross is too high for Carlos Vinicius and Brighton are alert to the second ball.

Toby Alderweireld then fouls Alexis Mac Allister, completely relieving the pressure on the Brighton goal.

FOUR minutes of injury time for Tottenham to salvage a point.

Brighton have the ball in the Spurs half and it's looking like it'll be just two wins in nine Premier League games for Tottenham.

They were top in December, but they're currently six points adrift of the top four.
