Not a bad recent away record in the league for Spurs.

Jose Mourinho's side have lost just one of their nine Premier League away games this season.

They have won their three away fixtures in all competitions in 2021 by an aggregate score of 12-2.

Oliver Camp: I know Mourinho is the boss, and a much more successful one than any of us will ever be, but for what it's worth: there isn't a single Spurs fan on the planet who would choose that starting XI. Looks awful. Another grim night in store

Good chance for Bale tonight. Sulking and holding a "funny" banner and then doing nothing so far for Spurs is starting to show that Zidane made the right choice.

  3. Brighton's home strugglespublished at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2021

    Brighton v Tottenham (19:15 GMT)

Brighton continue to struggle at home in the Premier League.

The Seagulls are the only team in the top four English divisions without a home league win this season.

Their winless home run currently stands at 14 games.

The last side to have a longer such streak were Derby County, who went 16 without a win in 2007-08.

  4. 'It's a lesson for them'published at 18:52 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2021

    West Ham 1-3 Liverpool

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes to BBC Sport: "It was tight. We found it hard against Liverpool. We were better in the first half but didn't show enough composure at times against a really good side.

"We have been in good form. We came into the game with a lot of confidence. This is the difference, at this level it shows. We're trying to catch a few teams up, not Liverpool, that's for sure.

"The players have been excellent. Even today, it's a lesson for them - the levels we have to get to. We didn't do the things we usually do well today."

  5. 'Little adjustments at half-time paid off'published at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2021

    West Ham 1-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to Sky Sports: "It was a great game, a very professional game, very controlled against usually a flying side.

"We didn't create enough in the first half. We made little adjustments at half-time and it paid off. We scored three unbelievable goals.

"In the first half we had three midfielders on the other side of the ball so Xherdan Shaqiri had to pass backwards. We wanted Divock Origi more in the centre. We played a double 10 then with Thiago and Shaqiri. James Milner is fine but showed signs of hamstring so we chose the right moment to bring him off.

"Shaq I thought he passed the ball too early. What Mo [Salah] made of it was incredible. The first touch was unbelievable.

"These boys are a really good group. They're not happy at not being successful, not winning, but they always have the right attitude."

On links with Preston defender Ben Davies: "Ben Davies, Tottenham... I have nothing to say about it. With this line-up it's not a problem, it's only if something else happens."

  6. 'Carry on and keep winning'published at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2021

    West Ham 1-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalscorer Mohamed Salah to Sky Sports: "A good win for us today, a second away game in a row. They're a tough team and played a good game. I've scored a few goals against them.

"We just need to carry on and keep winning. It was a big responsibility [with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino not starting].

"I don't like VAR. My opinion is it kills the joy of football. In some other country they give the striker more space [benefit of doubt]. I don't want to get fined but my opinion is I don't like it.

"If you want to win the league you have to win every game. City were struggling at the beginning of the season, then we were struggling a few games ago."

  7. Son to step up?published at 18:44 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2021

No Harry Kane tonight for Tottenham.

So can his team-mates step up in his absence?

Son Heung-min starts up top for Spurs and has scored in each of his last three Premier League games without Kane in the team.

  8. 'Liverpool outstanding'published at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2021

    West Ham 1-3 Liverpool

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was a huge win, they wanted back-to-back wins which they have not had in a while. The win at Spurs was a big statement, and I think this was a big statement.

It looks comfortable but West Ham made it difficult at times. Liverpool's quality in the second half was outstanding.

The second goal was full flow - that ball from Shaqiri, you have to give him huge credit. That didn't look like a Salah who hasn't been scoring, he kept believing in himself.

Chris Finegan: Fantastic result, great goals, touches of class from Salah, defence was solid, back to our best after two wins in London. City up next!!

lfcway: Before the match, they said Antonio was apparently going to have a field day with our back four. Hope Nat Phillips takes him out of his pocket before he leaves the London stadium!!

Apparently WHU were timid, Liverpool there for the taking. What I saw was a classic away performance by a European superpower. You want it back Pep, come and get it.

  10. Can Spurs keep up?published at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2021

    Brighton v Tottenham (19:15 GMT)

This is the state of play following Liverpool's 3-1 win over West Ham.

That takes the Reds third, above Leicester who earlier lost 3-1 to Leeds United in a brilliant contest.

Now it's up to Tottenham to stay in touch with the top-four. They're six points off the Champions League places prior to kick-off.

Colin Bundred: A very poor effort from West Ham. They started the game looking like frightened rabbits against a very depleted Liverpool side and have paid the price.

Do you remember when West Ham forgot they were West Ham for a week and believed they could make Europe? Just in case you needed to be reminded...your still West Ham.

  19. Liverpool approach Preston for defender Daviespublished at 18:17 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2021

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Liverpool have approached Preston about Ben Davies as they look to find a solution for their central defensive crisis.

Jurgen Klopp was forced to name his 12th different centre-half partnership in 21 Premier League games at West Ham.

Joel Matip has joined Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez on the injury list, whilst Fabinho, who has dropped back from midfield for most of the season, was also ruled out at the London Stadium.

The deal would represent an amazing step up for Barrow-born Davies.

The 25-year-old came through Preston’s youth system but had spells on loan with York, Southport and Newport amongst others.

Davies has made 19 appearances for Preston this season and completed the full 90 minutes in yesterday’s defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
