  8. 'We cannot expect immediate change'published at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2021

    Chelsea 2-0 Burnley

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel told BT Sport: “This gives us a boost. You always have to convince players with results.

“We controlled the match completely; we never lost awareness or focus. We fought and we were strong, we deserved to win.

“It should be a signal to our guys up front that we needed two defensive players to score. We lack at the moment that last precision in the box. We will work on this. But in the end I cannot care less. We are happy to have the win."

[On Timo Werner’s form]: “We cannot expect a change from one minute to the other. He’s not the only striker in the world who is sensitive when he does not score.

“No hugs can make up for this feeling [of scoring]. Maybe we need a stupid, silly deflection goal to make up for it. But as long as he has the work rate for the team he will push."

[On Chelsea’s derby with Spurs in their next match]: “Everybody told me about it. There is no way I will miss the importance of that match. We will play to win.”

  9. 'We all start from zero with the new manager'published at 14:58 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2021

    Chelsea 2-0 Burnley

    Chelsea

Chelsea goalscorer César Azpilicueta told BT Sport: "I think our last game against Wolves we deserved to win. Today we were struggling again to score goals.

"But it was a very good performance. We created chances and were solid at the back. We didn't concede a shot, it was a solid performance.

[On his goal]: "I saw the opportunity in front to run. Callum [Hudson Odoi] did very well and created the space for me. When I arrived I did not have time to think, I just hit it.

"It’s been over a year since I last scored. I’m not used to it. But I’m just happy to get the win.

[On teammate Marcos Alonso, scorer of Chelsea's second]: "He has shown his quality in the box. We know what he can give the team. Everybody in the squad is important, we all start from zero with the new manager.

"Chelsea should always win, that’s our DNA, we always play to win. Chelsea deserves to be fighting for everything. We are far from where we want [to be], but with the new manager we have everything to play for. We want to give everything to get as far as we can in every competition."

    FT: Chelsea 2-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche, speaking to BBC MOTD: "The best side won. I've got no complaints. In the second half they were by far the better side. We were a bit off in the second half and Chelsea had a better tempo. All credit to them.

"Sometimes people forget there is a vast gap between a team like Chelsea and ourselves but they really turned up in the second half.

"We do have days when the other teams plays well and get a result. It's all about what happens over the course of the season. You have got to hold a threat and today we didn't."

    FT: Chelsea 2-0 Burnley

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, speaking to BBC MOTD: "We had a lot of half chances but we had to wait a long time. What impressed me was that we never lost control and we had courage and confidence to impose our style.

"We never got scared and we stayed patient. The attitude and energy was very good. We only conceded one shot in the 94th minute.

"It was a hard team effort and a deserved win. The guys against Wolves also took their chance. I'm very happy with the performance and energy. It gives us a big boost for confidence."
