    FT: Dundee United 2-0 Kilmarnock

Dundee United manager Micky Mellon is pleased to see his side begin to show more of an attacking edge as they beat Kilmarnock 2-0 to move up to fifth in the Premiership.

Marc McNulty scored for the first time this season while Lawrence Shankland netted his first goal since September.

He tells BBC Scotland: "It's important. Marc McNulty does a power of work but he's better through the middle and Lawrence Shankland is better with someone playing off him.

"We felt there's been signs recently that we can push a few more players forward but still keep the defensive organisation. It was a really good effort, I'm really pleased with them."

Livingston head coach David Martindale tells BBC Sportsound: "I can’t take a lot of the credit for this, the boys have been magnificent.

"We worked on the gameplan and looked at Hamilton’s weaknesses. We put a lot of detail into training this week knowing we were coming to Hamilton. Tonight, the gameplan came together very nicely.

"I was really pleased how the boys managed the game. It was a very, very good performance. We are now defending better as a unit.

"The boys have bought into everything we’re trying to do. It’s all positive just now. Winning games of football makes winning the next game of football that little bit easier."

  7. 'The effort was there' - Hughespublished at 20:40

    FT: Celtic 2-0 Ross County

New Ross County manager John Hughes: "It was everything I expected. We knew we'd be under the cosh. Our organisation, the distances between players, our willingness to get stuck in and fight for the cause; I think that was evident.

"The disappointment is I'd like to have created more chances, laid a glove on them a little bit, and I'd like to have been better on the ball.

John Hughes was stoic following Ross County's defeat

"But you are playing against Celtic and they are basically playing in your half for most of the time. When you do get the tackle, where do you go? Because everyone is back.

"It all starts with hard work and the fundamentals, don't be scared of the shift. The rest will come. The effort and commitment was there and we won't be playing against a team like Celtic every week."

  8. 'There was a good zest about us' - Lennonpublished at 20:35

    FT: Celtic 2-0 Ross County

Celtic manager Neil Lennon tells BBC Sportsound: "I thought we should have won the game by a lot more but I'm very pleased with the freshness the boys who came in today brought to the team. The was a good zest about us.

"I'm happy with the clean sheet and a good three points; it's another step in the right direction.

"It was important to win and we'll take it game-by-game. I'd have liked more goals because I think our play deserved that. But there was good intensity and real quality in some of the football. We scored two lovely goals.

Neil Lennon says the win is a "step in the right direction"

"Griff [Leigh Griffiths] is never short of confidence. It's a good 80 minutes into his legs and he could have had a hat-trick. He needs to get sharper and he'll say 'well, you need to play me'. I think the more he plays and stays fit he'll be an asset for us going forward."

  9. 'The heart of my team was ripped out' - Ricepublished at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2020

    FT: Hamilton Academical 0-2 Livingston

Hamilton Academical head coach Brian Rice tells BBC Sportsound: "I’m missing nine first-team players, we can't cope with that. Tonight you saw that we really did miss key, key players.

"The heart of my team was ripped out. It’s difficult for us. Seven of them are starters. We’re scraping the barrel. When things go against you, they go against you.

  11. FULL-TIME Dundee United 2-0 Kilmarnockpublished at 20:22

Dundee United moved up to fifth in the Scottish Premiership with a comfortable win over struggling Kilmarnock at Tannadice.

Marc McNulty and Lawrence Shankland both put an end to recent goal droughts in the first half.

Kilmarnock had a brief flurry but rarely looked like scoring for just the second time in eight league games.

And the result heaps pressure on Kilmarnock boss Alex Dyer, with no goals or points now in their last four.

It's just Dundee United's fourth win in 15 games, yet amid that run they have only lost two of their last nine matches as they leapfrog Motherwell in the table.

  12. 'Reckless' O'Halloran disappoints Davidsonpublished at 20:20

    FT: St Johnstone 0-3 Rangers

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson tells BBC Scotland: “We limited them to very few chances. It’s a basic set-up and a throw-in and we deal with it all wrong and give them an opportunity to score.

"Six minutes later, we’re 2-0 down and it’s an uphill struggle. Half-time, I said to them, ‘stay in the game’. We conceded right after half-time. And that’s it, game’s over.

"I’m really disappointed with Michael O’Halloran. It was reckless going into that challenge already being booked. Just stay on your feet.”

  13. Dundee United 2-0 Kilmarnockpublished at 89 mins

The game is petering out at Tannadice with little in the way of goalmouth action.

Kilmarnock had looked bright at the beginning of the half but they've faded away, and United seem content to sit on their two-goal lead.

  14. Fuchs catches the eye...published at 20:12

While Marc McNulty and Lawrence Shankland will get the headlines for Dundee United if it stays like this at Tannadice, Jeando Fuchs has also caught the eye. He looks s shrewd bit of business, a real terrier like player who doesn't give his opponent a minute of peace. He seems to be settling into Scottish football very well.

  15. FULL-TIME - Motherwell 0-0 Aberdeenpublished at 20:08

A share of the spoils. Probably a fair result. Curtis Main's first-half header off the bar was the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock.

  16. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 76 mins

    Dundee United 2-0 Kilmarnock

Strong penalty shout from Dundee United.

Nicky Clark finds space on the left but his shot is saved. The ball falls for Paul McMullan who goes down under a challenge in the box, but the referee waves play on.

TV replays appear to show he was slipping before the challenge...

  17. Motherwell 0-0 Aberdeenpublished at 88 mins

Tony Watt's surging run ends with a shot at goal, but Joe Lewis manages to push the ball clear.

Both sides pushing for a winner!

  18. Dundee United 2-0 Kilmarnockpublished at 75 mins

Dundee United could have wrapped it up there. Lawrence Shankland tries to be clever and flick the ball into the net from close range, but hits the ball off his own foot.

  19. A solid, comfortable Celtic winpublished at 20:02

It was vital Celtic got a positive result tonight and the addition of a clean sheet is a real bonus given recent concessions in the goals against column. Conor Hazard was virtually anonymous which is a good sign.

In the second half they really managed to take control and when the passes became, quicker, more positive and penetrative, they looked far more threatening. It wasn’t breath-taking but they fully deserved the points.
