  2. 'We will take a lot of heart from this'published at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2021

    FT: Wycombe 1-4 Tottenham

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth on BT Sport: "The scoreline is probably not a reflection of the game although they were fantastic at the end - I am flattered they had to put some big names on to get in front. We looked tired, we have given everything and there is no disgrace from our boys, really proud - we will take a lot of heart from this.

"We have only trained one day in the last eight, that has hampered things, missing a couple of key players but no excuses - for 85 minutes we were well in the game, the third and fourth goals kill us. We go again, it's not going to be the FA Cup but I am determined to stay in the Championship.

"We have to take positives out of tonight, their second string is good enough to compete in the Premier League, never mind the Championship. Son, Kane, Hojbjerg, some really good players coming on.

"I am going to tell my boys they are good enough to stay in the Championship."

  4. 'Overall a good squad performance'published at 22:01 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2021

    FT: Wycombe 1-4 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, speaking to BT Sport: "If it goes to extra time, it would be bad for both teams. The players coming on in the second half of the game, it would be difficult to handle us but then we scored that goal to put us through.

"[Tanguy Ndombele] is very creative. He is one of those players that can break the balance. They tried to get him man against man but he can break that - plus on top of that he can score a goal for us.

"The attitude from the players from the first minute was excellent, then the players on the bench, they came with the intention of giving something to the team, so overall it was a good squad performance."

"Harry Winks played very, very well but all of the guys did very well, too."

Tanguy Ndombele has scored three goals in his past two games for Tottenham in all competitions, just two fewer than he netted in his first 52 for the club.

  8. 'The belief in the team is we keep going'published at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2021

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham goalscorer Harry Winks on 5 Live Sport: "It's a cold one, so we didn't want extra time!

"It was a tough one. They are a good side and made it difficult for us from the first minute. We expected a fight and we had to go right to the end and thankfully, it didn't go to extra time.

"It's the FA Cup and you never know what is going to happen. We had a lot of chances and opportunities we didn't take but the belief in the team is that we keep going until the final whistle and luckily that paid off for us today.

"I've been working on it a lot after training and when the ball came to me I just composed myself and tried to go for pace rather than lashing at it and seeing where it went. I'm happy to score whenever I get the chance.

"It's difficult not to get regular game time and build up momentum but every time I get the opportunity I have to take it, that's down to me to perform well."

A good night for Spurs in the end. And a good night for Gareth Bale, too.

He got his goal and could have had a hat-trick, but perhaps more importantly completed 90 minutes for the first time since returning to Tottenham on loan.

You have to give credit to Wycombe because they made it a cup tie until the last couple of minutes. Jose Mourinho had to bring on the big guns but they delivered for Tottenham, although that was never a 4-1 scoreline. Wycombe defended well, got men behind the ball and showed their class.

Wycombe, bottom of the Championship, can feel very satisfied with their performance.

They certainly pushed Spurs until the last five minutes.

The turn is brilliant from Ndombele! He is a player and he's starting to show his quality. He's had his differences with Jose but this season he has been fantastic.

    Tanguy Ndombele (90+3 mins)

    Oh, Tanguy.

What a player he is. The midfielder drives into the box, drags it back through his legs and fizzes an effort into the bottom corner.

Two goals for the Frenchman and Spurs have their fourth.

  18. Postpublished at 90+1 mins

    Wycombe 1-3 Tottenham

Wycombe deserve a lot of credit, Spurs have thrown everything at them in this second half and it needed the likes of Son, Kane and Ndombele to come off the bench for the Premier League side to see them through.

Wycombe lose the ball because they are trying to push players forward. Son picks the right pass to Ndombele and he scores yet another goal. He's starting to flourish in this Tottenham side. Good composed finished.
