So what next for Chelsea?

Well former Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel, is the man reportedly set to take the helm after he was abruptly sacked by the French champions in December.

The 47-year-old German led PSG to the Champions League final last term and won back-to-back league titles with the club.

Prior to that he won the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) with Borussia Dortmund and started his managerial career with Augsburg and then Mainz.

Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche believes the demands on football managers are becoming ever more short-termist.

Dyche, the Premier League's longest-serving boss said Lampard had been doing a good job at Chelsea and believes consumer culture is creeping in to football.

"The demands change and get higher and higher," he said. "It mirrors life and our demands as people.

"We all want everything delivered tomorrow with bigger support - that consumer side of life - it comes into football and sometimes there's a very short space of time.

"Managers get hired and fired more quickly. I'm not sure but I think the managerial life span is down to 14 or 16 months now. People want success and they want it now and it's a big challenge for managers."

By the looks of things this Danny Drinkwater post on Instagram, external didn't go down well earlier...

The Chelsea midfielder joined Turkish Super Lig side Kasimpasa on loan until the end of the season earlier in January having last appeared for the Blues in August 2018.

Dan: No surprise at all that Frank's gone, hire and fire has been Chelsea's model for years. The real shock is that Abromavich ever hired him in the first place knowing the fans would react this way when he inevitably got sacked.

Interesting take from former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot: "It took him [Frank Lampard] a little bit too long to get his team playing the way he wanted it, and I think the price tag he had on it really was one of the crucial decisions for the club."

Jim: All this sympathy for a clearly substandard manager is laughable. Lampard got the job because of who he was, not what he was capable of, now we have the sentimentality that is reserved solely for English failures.

Edward: They were wrong to appoint him and wrong to sack him. Another bungling farce from Abramovich.

Former England and Manchester United defender Gary Neville on Frank Lampard's dismissal: "I think the minute that the club spent the money that they did in the summer, and brought the players in that they brought in, it was always going to bring a lot more expectation and we know what happens at Chelsea with expectation."

The man who gave Frank Lampard his big break as a player at West Ham, Harry Redknapp, has also said his bit on Chelsea's decision to change their manager.

"Alex Ferguson survived by the skin of his teeth when the board looked like they would sack him after 18 months or two years at Old Trafford where he hadn't won anything," Redknapp, told talkSPORT.

"Suddenly he goes on to arguably be the greatest manager we've ever seen. "You need time and unfortunately at Chelsea it seems a club where they don't seem to give time."

Now for a bit more reaction from footballers past and present to Frank Lampard losing his job as Chelsea manager...

Roberto Di Matteo would be one out of nowhere Aziz.

I did see Mark Hughes' name being given a very light mention earlier but he's out at 60/1 now.

Thomas Tuchel is something like 1/10. In other words absolutely no point at all. Interestingly, Frank Lampard's odds have been cut dramatically on him taking over at Celtic if Neil Lennon leaves.

Richard: Chelsea will sack Thomas Tuchel in December 2022.

Aziz: Chelsea now must appoint Roberto Di Matteo and win the Champions League.

Setting aside the action on the pitch for a minute, who comes top of the Premier league sustainability table?

Any guesses? Just have a read of this all will become clearer. Or should I say greener.

To be honest Chelsea look like they have a decent run of games coming up.

Wolves and Burnley at home are followed by trips to Tottenham and Sheffield United, before they welcome Newcastle to Stamford Bridge.

They're not easy but I'd have imagined that Frank Lampard viewed them all as games his side could have won.

According to our friends over at Opta only three teams to have won 29 points or fewer from their opening 19 Premier League games have ended that season in the top four.

Leeds United (2000-01) Liverpool (2003-04) Manchester United (2019-20). They reckon Chelsea have a 13% chance of doing this in 2020-21.

Worth mentioning that those ratings are based on a player having made at least six appearances for their side in 2020-21.

One or two surprising ones in there like John Stones beating KDB at Manchester City and Edinson Cavani being ahead of Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United.

Interesting.

It's only a (check calendar) Monday and I have already lost track of what's going on and when. Not too hard in my house when you throw a hectic weekend of FA Cup football, Frank Lampard's sacking and some homeschooling into the mix.
