I once had a night out in Hamburg where we got drunk with a load of Germans. They played some remix version of the Will Grigg song and we spotted a group of English lads on the other side of the dance floor singing it. Became mates for life/the two-day holiday. (Sanders)

Sunderland forward Will Grigg is waiting for the green light to complete a move away from the Stadium of Light..

Grigg’s career has stalled since his £4m deadline day move from Wigan for two years ago.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in taking the Northern Ireland international on loan and Grigg’s representatives are confident of being able to conclude a deal at short notice.

However, they have still to be told by Sunderland that Grigg can leave.

Stakes raised by Russell and DC here... a team full of Scots and if we give it another couple hundred years maybe a team full of Maldinis. As if Zinedine Zidane's kid is only a goalie as well. No offence, keepers.

So it looks like things are hotting up in Liverpool.

Leaving it a bit late aren't they? Jordan Henderson will be having a mini party by himself at home.

"Jurgen, I can actually play in MIDFIELD again? Thanks boss."

  8. Maitland-Niles move could strengthen rivalspublished at 15:31 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2021

    Arsenal

The possibility that Ainsley Maitland-Niles could be heading out on loan is interesting. In such a strange season I'm not sure we know who our rivals are.

Giving a player to Leicester or Southampton could directly result in them both getting European football with us missing out and giving them Maitland-Niles is helping them.

The only way to make that one work is if there is a sale in the summer.

Newcastle still appear keen on Joe Willock, they must have forgiven us for agreeing to give them Rob Holding, only to say no in the final stages of the summer window.

In other news, it seems Swindon have sent back Matt Smith who will go on loan elsewhere (it looks like) - strange one as I thought he was doing quite well there.

  10. Lots of bets on Kabak joining Liverpoolpublished at 15:28 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2021

Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Turkish defender Ozan Kabak joining Liverpool today, following a series of bets, say Oddschecker.

Odds have been cut from 4-6 into 1-5, indicating an 83.3% chance Jurgen Klopp adds to his defensive options.

That’s due to Liverpool accruing 84% of all bets in the market, with money continuing to be placed on the move.

Bookmakers are only considering the Reds as one of two options for the centre back, with AC Milan the only other destination touted at 14/1.

Why is no one mentioning Colossal Nat Phillips in these offspring XIs?

Has anyone mentioned Olly and Elliot Lee, sons off Rob? Both were at Luton Town for a while, Elliot still a major cog in Nathan Jones' LTFC wheel.

Nat's dad Jimmy Phillips, for those unfamiliar with him, was a Bolton legend in the 1990s.

  13. 'A genuine club legend'published at 15:22 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2021

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Glenn Murray leaving Brighton is what I imagine it feels like when your children leave home. You know it is going to happen but nothing can prepare you for it.

I don't have children personally, but it is similar to how I felt when One Foot in the Grave ended and they killed off Victor Meldrew.

Murray departs the Amex as only the second player ever to score over 100 goals for Brighton after 1920s striker Tommy Cook. He fired the Seagulls from League One to the Premier League and then got 29 goals in two seasons which kept us up.

He is a genuine club legend who is on a par with the likes of Bobby Zamora and Peter Ward in the greatest ever player stakes. No mean feat, that.

The worst part about Murray's departure is that we did not get to say goodbye. The first thing that the Albion should be doing when stadiums reopen is inviting him back for the send-off he deserves as a player who did more than any to take Brighton into the top flight.

Nottingham Forest fans might be wondering what a veteran like Murray can bring to the City Ground. He has never relied on pace so getting old is not an issue. Chris Hughton knows how to get the best out of him and Anthony Knockaert knows how to supply him. If the Knockaert-Murray link is even 50% as good as it was when Brighton won promotion in 2016-17, then it will provide the goals to haul Forest away from the relegation zone.

If you missed it earlier, Glenn Murray left Brighton to join Nottingham Forest on a free.
