Wayne Rooney’s first taste of a transfer window as a manager is likely to be a busy one!

Derby County are closing in on three loan signings – Manchester United’s Teden Mengi and Rangers’ George Edmundson will bolster the defensive unit, while Stoke striker Lee Gregory is also heading to Pride Park.

There will almost certainly be some outgoings too.

Midfielder George Evans looks set to join Millwall on a permanent basis, while youngster Morgan Whittaker is off to Swansea.

Shaun Foster: If Shkodran Mustafi leaves to go and win the league with Liverpool I’m never watching football again.

Pun Guy: Who needs Neymar when you have Joelinton?

Arsenal could do with a back up left back as Tierney is made of glass. Getting rid of Maitland-Niles might be a bad choice. Arsenal's injury history is painful. Don't think Odegaard is the creative solution either. Deadwood needs to be shifted as well.

  8. Bergkamp joins Watfordpublished at 11:39 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2021

    Mike Peter
    BBC Sport

Watford have made a signing for their under-23s, picking up 22-year-old midfielder Mitchel Bergkamp - and yes, that's the son of Dennis. He’s set to play alongside Maurizio Pochettino, son of Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio, who joined from Tottenham yesterday.

The Hornets development side already has Max Statham, whose father Brian played for Spurs in 80s/90s, and Henry Wise, who was carried by his dad Dennis when he lifted the FA Cup for Chelsea in 2000.

So if you've got a parent who played professional football, why not head down to Vicarage Road? You'll probably get a game...

Newcastle full-back Matt Ritchie could be following DeAndre Yedlin with a move away from Tyneside after links with a return to Bournemouth.

It sounds like there is still work to be done on that front, according to Steve Bruce.

The Newcastle manager said of a potential move: "That's up in the air, he's been a good servant. We will see later on in the day with that, he's been frustrated not being regular in the team, and I understand that, but he has to understand that if it doesn't happen he has to get his head down."

Crystal Palace have announced that Vicente Guaita has signed a new contract that keeps the stopper at the Club for at least two more years.

Eagles legend Clinton Morrison said on TV this morning: "I could have told you that weeks ago."

This tactic of announcing saved up contract news has been employed by Steve Parish before on Deadline Day with the aim of softening the blow of no new incomings.

With half the squad - as well as manager Roy Hodgson - out of contract in the summer, the next window is a make or break one in South London.

    BBC Sport

Brighton are confident of finally completing the signing of Ecuador youngster Moises Caicedo at some point today.

The club have been trying to sort out the final details of Caicedo’s move to the Amex Stadium for a couple of weeks now, after fighting off competition from a number of Premier League clubs for the 19-year-old.

BBC Sport understands Brighton officials feel the move will go ahead, which would be a major coup for manager Graham Potter.
