Mikel Arteta was in good spirits this morning doing his best to avoid answering any transfer related questions.

However, he did admit that some players could be leaving “we have decided and we are working on it. You will find out before 11pm.”

Three clubs are interested in Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Southampton, West Brom and Leicester. Reiss Nelson is another who could leave on loan.

Across North London, I asked Jose Mourinho whether Dele Alli is leaving after the defeat to Brighton at the Amex last night:

“I believe he is staying. I never had one feeling or sign of doubt that Dele the next day couldn’t be here so for me it is nothing new.”

Unless something drastic happens today I cant see the midfielder leaving for PSG.

  9. No news yet on Maitland-Niles' futurepublished at 10:23 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2021

Wolves v Arsenal (Tue, 18:00 GMT)

    Arsenal

One player linked with a move away from the Emirates is defender Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The 23-year-old has seen interest from the likes of Leicester City, Southampton, West Brom and Newcastle but Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was staying tight-lipped on where Maitland-Niles could end up.

“I cannot speak about individuals. We know what we want to do." said Arteta.

"The conversations we have had, there are various reasons and let's see if we can get something done tonight.”

On whether any other players would go out on loan, Arteta said the club "have decided" and were "working on it."

"You will find out before 11:00pm.” added Arteta.

    Stay tuned!

With the creative player and back up keeper we needed already in, today is all about outgoings.

Questions remain over Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson with all three possible for a loan move out.

All three need minutes so we can really see what they are about in order to make decisions in the summer.

The other one is Lucas Torreira. It hasn’t quite happened in Madrid so there were rumours of him coming back and going elsewhere - we’ll watch that space.

  13. 'A month to forget for Chelsea'published at 10:16 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2021

Ross Mooring from the Chelsea Fancast:

    Chelsea

January 2021 will be a month to forget for Chelsea Football Club, no matter what new signings the team might make by the time the window slams shut tonight.

For many supporters, it cannot close soon enough. Some things never change at Chelsea; sacking legendary managers and ex-players on a whim has been a consistent problem, long before Roman’s purchase of the club in 2003.

Ultimately, the club's recent success has been achieved by many of the same players and coaches it regularly unceremoniously dispatches and in spite of a transfer policy that reverses course every few years, not because of it.

However, more important than any of that is the news of yet more racist abuse being sent on social media to football players this weekend; Reece James being the latest Chelsea player to be on the receiving end. Several vile messages were sent to the twenty year old right back on Friday, a superlative footballer who has been with the club since the distant days of Jose's first reign as manager.

More than any new signing a team could make to bring a smile to the faces of its supporters in 2021, racism in the sport must be kicked out for good. Enough!"

Wolves v Arsenal (Tue, 18:00 GMT)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been up bright and early for his pre-match press conference, as the Gunners face Wolves away in the Premier League on Tuesday.

The North London side have already signed Real Madrid attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard on loan until the end of the season.

But the Spanish boss was unsure what deadline day has install for the club.

“The last day of the transfer window is unpredictable," Arteta said. "They might happen, they might not happen. We are on it.

"Hopefully we don’t have any bad surprises. We are discussing things with some players and some clubs. If we are making things to happen before the deadline it’s because we think its right for their development.”
