"He’s a boy who played his whole life for Preston, is around the corner pretty much. We see the potential really. We see the quality and we see the potential as well because he’s 25 and there’s a lot to come for him.

"I love a lot about his play. He’s a really good footballer, looks like a proper leader in this Preston team, good in challenges, looks football smart, can play different positions because he played in a back three and a back four and all these things."

Liverpool's new defender Ben Davies: "It’s a huge opportunity. Obviously it came as a bit of a surprise when it first came but once you start to get your head around it, the opportunity that is in front of me is incredible.

"I’d be silly to not make the most of it and learn off the players [at the club].

Juventus have confirmed, external that midfielder Rolando Mandragora has joined neighbours Torino on an 18-month loan deal.

The terms of the deal mean Torino can sign the 23-year-old Italy international permanently at the conclusion of this season or at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

Mandragora was on loan at Udinese earlier in the season.

Premier League champions Liverpool have signed defender Ben Davies from Championship side Preston.

The fee for the 25-year-old is £500,000 up front with structured add-ons worth up to £1.1m with a 20% sell-on on profit.

Celtic thought they had signed the player on a pre-contract agreement until Liverpool stepped in with Burnley, Sheffield United and Bournemouth also interested.

Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg, 19, joins Preston on loan for the rest of the season as part of the deal.

Millwall have signed midfielder George Evans from fellow Championship club Derby County for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old, who can also play at centre-back, has agreed a "long-term deal" with the Lions.

And talking of Millwall making a signing, they are leading the race to make the biggest donation on Cancer Deadline Day as fans across the country raise money for eight cancer charities.
