Don't understand us [Everton] getting rid of Tosun... I get he's only played half a match in the Prem but we only have one striker in DCL who's scoring has dried up. Richarlison could play up top but he's been poor this season. Not looking promising.

  2. Ipswich sign Wolves' Matheson on loanpublished at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2021

Luke Matheson is on the move for the second winter in a row.

Last year he joined Wolves from Rochdale - but spent the rest of the season with his old club.

Now the 18-year-old defender, who hasn't played for his parent club yet, is off to Ipswich until the end of the season.

The Suffolk side signed Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott, also 18, on loan from Spurs earlier.

  3. Wigan make some signingspublished at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2021

League One side Wigan Athletic have signed Rotherham striker Jamie Proctor and Plymouth centre-back Scott Wootton on loan until the end of the season.

Ex-Fleetwood and Crawley man Proctor, 28, spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Newport, scoring two goals in 13 appearances.

Former Leeds defender Wootton, 29, has played 68 times for Argyle since joining from MK Dons in July 2018.

The Latics have also re-signed winger Viv Solomon-Otabor until the summer.

    Speaking of Newcastle...

Newcastle United had agreed a deal with the Turkish defender Ozan Kabak before Liverpool nipped in to sign the defender from Schalke.

Liverpool blew Newcastle out of the water once they registered their interest with a loan deal where they have an option to buy for £18m.

  13. Liverpool have 'kept an eye' on Kabakpublished at 19:05 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2021

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on Radio 5 Live

I think Liverpool have watched Ozan Kabak for a long, long time and one of Jurgen Klopp’s former colleagues at Mainz – Klopp’s first managing job – thoroughly recommended him to Jurgen so they kept an eye on him and have decided to take him.

But I think they are taking both Ben Davies and Kabak on loan with a view to buying them. Because of Covid, there now seems to be more loans than actual purchases this particular deadline month.

If you can loan someone and only spend a fraction of the price you would need to, why not? I think a lot of (loaning) clubs are more amenable to that nowadays. In the past they would say there’s no way you're taking him on loan, you either sign him or don’t bother doing the deal.

However, Everton are waiting to see if they can add to their squad with interest in Josh King of Bournemouth.

The 23-year-old forward had signed a pre-contract to join Steven Gerrard's side in the summer. But he will move south in this window after the Dons accepted an offer understood to be around £175,000.

Reports that AFC Wimbledon are considering an approach to Chelsea women’s manager Emma Hayes are news to her, a reliable source has told me.

Hayes, whose side are enjoying a 33-game unbeaten run in the Women’s Super League, is understood to be happy at Chelsea.

Two down, one to go for West Brom after Okay Yokuslu followed Mbaye Diagne through the door at The Hawthorns.

All they have to do now is complete the signing of Arsenal defender/midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles before the 23:00 GMT deadline and - together with Robert Snodgrass who moved from West Ham earlier in the window - manager Sam Allardyce has reshaped his squad to some degree.

The problem is of the four, only Snodgrass will be available for tomorrow night's crucial Premier League encounter with bottom club Sheffield United.
