RE: concussion protocols - the hubris shown by football authorities is staggering and endangering the health of players. I'm sure that a main reason for the fact this still hasn't been dealt with is because they refuse to accept that another sport and governing body has something workable and useable already... time for pride to be swallowed!

Arsenal try to do to Aston Villa what Aston Villa did to them and catch them cold in the first few seconds. They attack quickly and with intent but Bukayo Saka's ball into the middle of the box is cleared.

Saka has been bullied by the likes of Targett, Grealish and Nakamba. I wish we can have a bit of luck for once and have one of them sent off. COYG.

Re: Jimmy, 13.26. All Arsenal fans want from the refs is consistency. If Luiz got a red, so should that foul today. But ideally neither would be a red!!

    Southampton

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand speaking to BT Sport: “When you have a moment like that (losing 9-0 at Manchester United) you just want to get on the pitch and put it right. There were many factors at play that night that don’t usually happen so we weren’t too disheartened by it.

“This is always a tough place to come but we have to try and comeback from our previous result.”

Nathan: Reckon Villa might concede early at the start of the second half if they don't get more possession. Would like to see Grealish have a bit more freedom to come inside.

Sam: It's infuriating that people are so impatient. I'd much rather have a couple of seasons finishing mid-table to let Arteta build a lasting legacy, rather then chuck him out & start this all over again. Rome wasn't built in a day, so be supportive & let him do his job.

Will Arsenal get back into this in the second half? They haven't won any of their last 12 Premier League games when trailing at half time (D3 L9), since a 3-1 comeback victory against West Ham at the London stadium in December 2019.

If Konsa plays for Arsenal, he would have had a second yellow by now.

    Dan, London

A red there would have been less harsh than Luiz's as Wolves also gained a penalty. Baffling how that's not a red and Luiz's was.

    Adam, Oxford

Arsenal fans were all saying the Luiz decision was wrong, so why are they now saying today's decision is wrong?

There's a big game tomorrow at the top of the table as Manchester City host Liverpool. A defeat for the Reds and what was looking like a close title race will increasingly be turning into a bit of a canter for City.

Manchester United could go level on points with Pep Guardiola's side if they beat Everton later today, although they will have played two games more than their city rivals.

Jason C: Maitland-Niles perfect cover for left-back void, so why loan him out?

Luke: Ref needs to do his job properly and protect Saka from serious injury. Villa are kicking lumps out of him.

Andy Pearsall: RE Adopted Scouser: 'Remember when Villa fans wanted Smith out?'. No.

Nathan: Cash the rash? Because he's all over the opposition.....

I know fans of every team will say this about their team, but it never feels like Arsenal get the benefit of very many big refereeing decisions. Any marginal ones seem to always go against us.

    Peter, Oxford

To Mick in Tamworth. Villa have been excellent this season but one decent season doesn't always mean going in the right direction. Case in point: Sheffield United.

Mark, doctor from London, 13:01: I totally agree. How is it possible for football to get this so badly wrong when rugby and other sports have had this in place for years?

    Richard, Herts

The problem with the temporary replacements everyone keeps suggesting is that players will be rushed on without warning up, this will cause more injuries.

Another big refereeing decision goes against Arsenal - Konsa was the last man, surely?

    Martin, South London

Saka was through on goal there, that should have been a red card. Officials making mistakes constantly is infuriating.

That would have been a harsh red, but surely no harsher than Luiz's midweek?

We need Pepe do show his magic. In my opinion he could be world class. Now is the time to show it.
