    FT: Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

    Curtis Davies
Derby defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Villa have had a really good season, Dean Smith has done a fantastic job. You see the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal below them, who don’t seem to be finding any sort of form.

With Villa’s games in hand they do have a chance to get into the European places, but you need to win those games. They’re coming thick and fast. If they do, they can get into the top six.

    Nice one Gaz.

    Thought Arsenal were back...?

In 10th place now, nine points adrift of the top four.

Right, hang around for reaction to that game and build up to the two 15:00 GMT kick offs. I'll be back for them but for now I'll pass the baton to my colleague Shamoon Hafez.

    The floor is yours, Sham!

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

All over! Ollie Watkins' early goal seals the points for Aston Villa.

Plenty of huff and puff from Arsenal but not much quality in the final third.

  6. Postpublished at 90+4 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

Mikel Arteta holds his head again as an Arsenal corner is cleared. They do have a free kick though as Willian is fouled. Last chance...

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 90+3 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

Granit Xhaka is booked as he stops Jack Grealish from charging towards the Arsenal goal.

Not long left. Arsenal need a moment of magic otherwise Aston Villa will be taking the three points.

Matty Ryan putting that early disappointment behind him. Keeping Arsenal in this game. Mixed fortunes today but overall he will be happy with his performance if not the result - unless Arsenal score.

    Colin, Kent

I always try to back Arteta, but when he persists in bringing Willian on he really makes it difficult to support him. Especially with Martinelli and even Ceballos on the bench.

Is Willian a secret agent, sent by Chelsea, to be absolutely useless?

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

A cross bounces through the box and almost comes through Martin Odegaard but Emiliano Martínez comes off his line to pluck the ball from Odegaard's boot.

Mikel Arteta has his head in his hands for what feels like the 100th time in the last 10 minutes.

  10. Postpublished at 90 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

The 90 minutes are up and there will be five minutes of time added on.

There's still hope for Arsenal to get something from this.

Daniele Fiandaca: As soon as Willian comes on, I might as well turn the tv off as I know it means Arsenal are going to lose. So frustrating.

Joe Wedgewood: Willian has been a liability since coming on. Martinelli was surely the better option?

Incredible working rate and skill from Watkins. Running several players ragged. Brilliant player.

    Stephen, Birmingham

What is wrong with our players? I mean, instead of passing the ball to death, go and beat a man for goodness sake! Villa are just sat there comfortably watching us do it!

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

Granit Xhaka sends the ball into the box for Arsenal but it is another comfortable claim for Emiliano Martínez.

This is definitely feeling like one of those "could play until Sunday morning and still not score" sort of games for Arsenal.

  13. Postpublished at 86 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

Another chance for Ollie Watkins at the other end as he cuts in from the left but his low effort is pushed away by Mat Ryan. Arsenal struggle to clear but the offside flag eventually saves them.

  14. CLOSE!published at 84 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

BIG chance for Martin Odegaard to get his first goal in English football as Bukayo Saka picks him out with a cutback but Odegaard sweeps over the bar. Both he and Mikel Arteta have their heads in their hands. That might have been Arsenal's moment.

Eayodele: I like Arteta but sincerely speaking Arsenal managerial job is to big for him to handle unless we are waiting for results in 5 years time.

Rob Elmore: Sorry but Arteta has to go

  16. CLOSE!published at 82 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

Arsenal lose possession and Jack Grealish heads towards goal, feeds Ollie Watkins but the striker's low effort drifts just wide of the far post.

Aston Villa are finishing strongly and it is they who look most likely to get the next goal at the moment.

Partey was injured for 24 days in his 5 years at Atletico. He can't stop getting injured at Arsenal. Strange.

  18. GREAT SAVE!published at 79 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

Mat Ryan may have conceded very early but he's been solid since and made a number of good saves, the latest of which sees him keep out a stinging effort from Jack Grealish.

It keeps Arsenal in it with just under 10 minutes to go...

Willian is straight into the action as he tries to drive through on the left but he is denied by a great challenge from Matty Cash, who has been excellent today.
