Ten minutes to go until the break and Aston Villa are pretty comfortable. Arsenal's best opportunities have been from range, they've struggled to do much once they've got in and around the box.

Should that have been more for Ezri Konsa? Bukayo Saka would have had a run on goal, although Matt Targett was covering the middle. The referee and VAR are happy a yellow is enough and from the free-kick Rob Holding heads over.
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Excellent from Bertrand Traoré as he is picked out by Ross Barkley, turns quickly to get between two defenders and in on goal but his flicked effort is well saved by Mat Ryan.
Ezri Konsa is then booked as he prevents Bukayo Saka from breaking away.

The new concussion rule doesn’t work. You need a temporary replacement to allow players to be taken off the pitch to be properly assessed. Concussed players will continue to say they feel OK and carry on playing.

12:49 Uncle Busby: How are they gonna plan that? Can get yourself booked, sent off, or score an own goal but give one of your players concussion?

Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Better now though as Emiliano Martínez dives to tip behind Granit Xhaka's excellent free-kick before Rob Holding flicks a header wide following a short corner. Better from the Gunners.
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Nicolas Pepe's attempted cross deflects awkwardly off Matty Cash, forcing Emiliano Martínez to leap and catch the ball to prevent it dipping just under the bar.
That's as close as we've come to a shot since the first couple of minutes.
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Mat Ryan conceded just 74 seconds into his first Premier League start for Arsenal, becoming just the fourth goalkeeper in the competition's history to concede within the opening two minutes of their full Premier League debut for a club, after Gavin Ward (Bolton), Ian Bennett (Sheff Utd) and Daniele Padelli (Liverpool).
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Rob Holding deflects behind Jack Grealish's cross and now Aston Villa have a corner. Grealish whips the ball in but Mat Ryan comes off his line to punch away.
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Arsenal attack in numbers again but Bukayo Saka can't get his cross over Marvelous Nakamba and the ball deflects behind for an Arsenal corner, which is a poor one and easily claimed by Emiliano Martínez.

To Anon at 12:36: Sounds like sour grapes. Compare the development of the two teams over the last two years and I know which one is going in the right direction regardless of injuries or not.

Arsenal and Spurs are determined to finish below each other in the table! I bet Wenger and Poch would be welcomed back with open arms!

Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Alexandre Lacazette clips a neat ball into the box for Bukayo Saka to run onto but the Arsenal man is just beaten to it by Emiliano Martínez.
The only shot we've had in this game was Ollie Watkins' opener on 73 seconds. Nothing since.

Andy Thomas: Why does it seem like football is trying to over-complicate the concussion substitute?! Just make it a temporary sub for an assessment, then make it permanent if they can't come back on? Saves faffing around and any confusion.
Uncle Busby: How long until a PL club uses the concussion protocol incorrectly to gain that extra substitute to make tactical alterations in a crucial game?
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Matty Cash, John McGinn and Bertrand Traoré link up down Arsenal's left as Aston Villa attack before Cash swings a cross into the box. The Gunners clear and Alexandre Lacazette leads a promising break but his attempt to play a ball out wide is cut out.

It’s so disappointing for Arsenal. It was really bad defending in terms of where they were set up. As a striker, I would have loved to have been playing there - they left Ollie Watkins in bags of space.
Traore has been one of my favourite players for Aston Villa. He’s so positive when he picks the ball up and so direct with his running.
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Big shout of "away" as Aston Villa whip in their first corner of the game but Bukayo Saka is well placed to clear the ball in.
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Arsenal have dominated possession since going behind but are yet to really give Emiliano Martínez any cause for concern in the Aston Villa goal.
Villa have had just two touches inside the Arsenal box in the opening stages with one of those resulting in the goal.
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Ezri Konsa and Alexandre Lacazette clash heads as the two go for a ball. It looks painful and they are both on the ground before receiving treatment.
Today is the first day that concussion substitutes can be used, but after a few minutes both players are back up and are able to continue.
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Emile Smith Rowe and Nicolas Pepe are combining well down the left for Arsenal as the visitors continue to try and make up for that horrid start. Pepe gets a cross in but it is headed away from danger by the hosts.
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Ollie Watkins' opener was Aston Villa's earliest Premier League goal since May 2014 (Ashley Westwood versus Hull - 57 seconds).
Watkins is also the first Villa player to score in three consecutive Premier League matches at Villa Park since Darren Bent in November 2011.

To Alexjourno - Odegaard's first game was Man United so didn't start. Second game we were down to nine men. Third game we need to play our form team to get back to winning ways. He'll play but he can't just expect to walk into the team and displace Saka or ESR. Patience.
Ben in Bedford
The difference between Arsenal and Villa tends to be injuries. Villa have been lucky to keep Grealish fit, without him they're a lesser team significantly.
