The Blades may just have run themselves into ground here. Chelsea are managing the game well, up in the home half.

That Jayden Bogle challenge got short shrift from referee Kevin Friend. As Mateo Kovacic lay on the floor, the official just said "throw-in" with almost no sympathy. Likewise for Chris Wilder.

To be fair, Kovacic looks to have recovered quite quickly.

Wilder is cajoling his team as they search for an equaliser.

Chelsea probably move the ball better than Sheffield United at times today but clear intent from Thomas Tuchel - he's taken two of his front three off and now got a midfield of Mateo Kovacic, Ngolo Kante and Jorginho, Mason Mount has moved further forward and Callum Hudson-Odoi is basically up front on his own. Clearly happy to just see this game out.

Ooo, that's a bit naughty. Bogle goes in on Kovacic and catches the Chelsea man on the ankle. Thankfully, the Chelsea man is OK. Nt even a yellow for it, though, for Bogle.

Meanwhile, Timo Werner is getting his thigh strapped off the pitch. Let's see if Tuchel says anything about that afterwards.

There is still something in this for the Blades. Fleck gets down the right and crosses just a few inches too high for McBurnie to meet with his head.

Werner off, Kante on for Chelsea. If ever there were a man to protect a lead.

  7. Postpublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

    Sheffield United 1-2 Chelsea

Sheffield United are not giving up. John Fleck weaves his way through a big group of Chelsea players in the box to set up a shooting chance but his effort is blocked by Rudiger and the deflects back off the Blades midfielder for a goal-kick. When it's not rolling for you.

Nine of Jorginho's 11 Premier League goals have come from the penalty spot (82%) - this is the highest ratio of any player with 10+ goals in the competition's history.

David McGoldrick's first try at goal is a low shot from the edge of the box. Might have been going wide but Mendy takes no chances, diving low to save.

It is a good delivery too from Norwood, but Alonso does well to position himself and clear.

Fleck is fouled by James wide right. This is a chance to deliver something useful.

Twenty minutes to go. Have Sheffield United got anything left in the arsenal to hurt Chelsea?

Chris Wilder dips further into his striker reserves. It is Billy Sharp coming on for Kean Bryan.

Chelsea looking for the blow that would surely end this as a contest. Kovacic looks to chip a pass to the back post, where Marcos Alonso is lurking but denied by the head of Bogle.

It's a corner that Azpilicueta meets at the near post and flicks past the far upright.

Aaron Ramsdale is getting a good check from the United medical staff. Could this be following the clash with Werner? It did look like he got a belt in the head in the coming together.

He appears to be OK, but you can't be too careful with head injuries.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

Two changes for Chelsea. Chilwell and Giroud make way for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Marcos Alonso.

The Blades also make a switch with McGoldrick on for Oli Burke.

Big celebrations from Chelsea players all over the field - really sloppy back-pass puts Aaron Ramsdale in a terrible position. Celebrations no bigger than those of Antonio Rudiger, that gets him out of trouble for that own goal.

Now the Blades think they should have a penalty as Oli McBurnie goes down under pressure from a host of Chelsea defenders in the box. Kevin Friend waves away the protests and there'll be no VAR shenanigans this time either.
