Brighton have had the ball, now you have to do something with it. You could say Crystal Palace have been the better side defensively and been clinical with that one chance. Brighton have to get more width higher up the pitch.

That goal is the only time Palace have touched the ball in Brighton's penalty area - and their only shot, on or off target.

What reaction will we see from Brighton?

Pascal Gross' free-kick is cleared out to Alexis Mac Allister. He has a crack from 20 yards but it hits Joel Ward's heel and goes out for a corner.

Jordan Ayew heads away the corner and gets fouled.

That was the first goal Brighton have conceded at home in the Premier League in 344 minutes, since Ruben Neves' penalty for Wolves at the start of January.

Jean-Philippe Mateta is the 12th different player to score a Premier League goal for Crystal Palace this season - excluding own goals.

Only Chelsea (15), Manchester City and West Ham (14 each) have more different scorers in the competition this campaign.

There was a huge amount of elation in the Crystal Palace technical area after that goal.

It was almost like you could see the pressure disappearing up into the Sussex sky.

Deldude: Sublime goal from Mateta. Last time I saw that was Cristiano Ronaldo when he was at United. Guess it was Portsmouth or Blackburn Rovers. Not sure. Defender was caught off guard and Goalkeeper couldn’t react in time.

Crystal Palace are not going to come out of their shape now. It's only 32 minutes in, but you might see Brighton move to a back four to come out a bit as the game progresses.

Oooh, that was a nice hit. Palace can't properly clear a Brighton corner and Joel Veltman curls just wide from 20 yards.

Unbelievable goal, all credit has to go to Jordan Ayew because he has to travel with the ball and the ball in is fantastic. It is a fantastic, really smart, intelligent finish from Jean-Philippe Mateta.

What I like about that movement is he got across Ben White, any centre forward is told to get across the defender and it gives you a chance. It's a brilliant finish, really clever.

Where did that come from!? I was just thinking how do Crystal Palace get close enough to Brighton’s goal to shoot? What a finish from Mateta. Saying that is against the run of play is an understatement.

You can ignore my 20:15 GMT entry now, to be honest.

My favourite bit of that was that after he celebrated by kung-fu kicking the corner flag, he looked around thinking the goal had been disallowed. That would have been heartbreaking. It counts though.

Brighton's wing backs are really important to try and pull apart Crystal Palace. Roy Hodgson is very happy with how defensively they are organised, as soon as the game starts to stretch it will challenge them because they will have to come out of the defensive pockets and that could expose Palace.

Brighton wing-back Steven Alzate skips past a defender but his cross curls out of play before the Palace keeper tips it over his bar. Goal-kick.
