  1. Post update

England's countdown to the Euros continued with a narrow win over Austria at The Riverside Stadium - but suffered an injury setback as Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold limped off late on.

Have a read of Phil McNulty's report

We are back on Thursday with more international action.

    Until then.

  2. 'I'm ready when called upon'

    FT: England 1-0 Austria

    England

England midfielder Jack Grealish speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Since I've come back that's what I've been doing [putting ice on leg], I'm still a bit aware of the injury so after these games I have to try and recover as much and as good as I can so that's why I put the ice on straight away."

Didn't look like you wanted to come off? "I love playing football, I didn't want to come off, that's the manager's decision and I respect that.

"It's difficult, I've been out for three months, only started three games since I've been back. It takes time, I'm ready when called upon. I still train as hard as I can, as if I am back in the swing fully."

On getting the call up to the squad: "Unbelievable, something I will cherish forever, I rang my mum straight away to tell her I'm number seven for the tournament. It was a massive moment, I'm going to grab it with both hands."

  3. Stat attack

    • England have won their last seven friendly matches, their best run in friendlies since winning seven in a row under Sir Bobby Robson between June 1985 and May 1986.
    • Aged 19, Bukayo Saka became the third teenager to score for England while playing for Arsenal, along with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
    • England haven’t lost any of their last 19 matches when an Arsenal player has scored (W17 D2) since Francis Jeffers scored in a 3-1 home defeat to Australia in February 2003.
    • Ben White became the fifth Brighton player to play for England after Tommy Cook, Peter Ward, Steve Foster and Lewis Dunk.
  4. 'Biggest moment of my career so far'

    England 1-0 Austria

    England

England goalscorer Bukayo Saka speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Probably the biggest moment of my career so far, the biggest moment was getting called up for England the first time and now to score the goal it sounds nice, it's an amazing feeling for me.

"You dream of that as a kid, scoring for your country, coming through the age groups with England so to now do it here and score for the seniors it's an amazing feeling and I hope I can have this feeling many more times.

"Every game is an opportunity to grow in confidence and chemistry with my team mates so today is another step in the right direction.

"It's a big honour to be named in the final squad, grateful to Gareth [Southgate], happy that I get the opportunity to represent my country in a major tournament so I'm looking forward to it a lot."

  5. 'We were hanging on at the end'

    England 1-0 Austria

    England

England boss Gareth Southgate to ITV: "I thought we started very well. We used the ball well in the first hour or so.

"We were playing against a very good side. They have good players. They get in between the lines well.

"The first hour was good in terms of quality. After that we needed to make a lot of changes and preserve people. We got a bid disjointed and people had cramp. We were hanging on at the end. It was understandable given the changes.

"Jack Grealish showed some lovely touches. You can see he's still getting to full fitness - with the bursts you know he can make. He's a quality player."

  6. Post update

Wan-Bissaka, Justin James or Lamptey to replace him?

  7. 'It's not a good sign to see him walk off as he did'

    England 1-0 Austria

    England

England boss Gareth Southgate to ITV on Trent Alexander-Arnold: "We're going to have a look. It's not good to see him come off in the way he did.

"We'll have to assess him over the next 24 hours. I think thigh but the medical team are assessing him. We'll have to see. It's not a good sign to see him have to walk off as he did. We'll know more in 24 to 48 hours."

On who would replace him if he is badly injured: "Let's see how Trent is and then we'll go from there.

"We don't know the full extent. The last thing you want is to see him come off in the way he did."

  8. Post update

    England 1-0 Austria

Gareth Southgate says England will have to assess Trent Alexander-Arnold in the next 24 hours.

Southgate says "it's not a good sign" to see him walking off and thinks it is a thigh problem.

    Full quotes to come.

  9. 'Young players will have an impact'

    FT: England 1-0 Austria

    Chris Waddle

Ex-Newcastle and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't think Jude Bellingham has 90 minutes in him yet, he's still only young, Bukayo Saka looked the part tonight but also looked tired in the last 20-30 minutes. They may be impact players.

I remember playing with Gazza and he had no fear he'd put an England shirt on and just go out there and play - Jack Grealish looks a bit like that, he looks like he just wants to enjoy himself. Young players can have an impact. I think we all have a rough idea of who Gareth Southgate will start if everyone's fit but there's a few players there that will have made him think that if it's not working I'm not afraid to leave these out and the youngsters could end up wearing the shirts.

  10. Post update

    England 1-0 Austria

Roy Keane talking about Jack Grealish on ITV: "He is the star man, he makes things happen. He has courage and always wants the ball in tight areas. Like Cristiano Ronaldo at Portugal, you need players like that in your team. It is brave."

And such a glowing reference despite turning down the Republic of Ireland. 😄

  11. 'A good test'

    England 1-0 Austria

    England

England midfielder Jack Grealish on ITV: "It has been a great few days, announced in the final squad was hard work for all the season and that was my aim. I have had an injury recently but to get 70 minutes under my belt is perfect.

"It was a bit of stress on my shin, a different type of injury but I am not concerned. I still need to keep on top of it and heal it after games that is why I had the ice on."

On Trent Alexander-Arnold injury: "I am not sure what has happened and it did not look good as he made his way off the pitch.

"You cannot knock Austria, top players in the Bundesliga and we have seven or eight top, top players to come back. A good test and another win under our belts."

It's ended 1-1 between Germany and Denmark.

Florian Neuhaus scored the opening goal for Germany after a fortunate ricochet in the box.

Yussuf Poulsen ran onto Christian Eriksen's through ball to slam in an equaliser with Denmark's only shot on target.

It was an international return for Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels, who were exiled by Joachim Low over two years ago.

  15. 'Did they really need this game?'

    FT: England 1-0 Austria

    Chris Waddle

Ex-Newcastle and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a good win - there are some positives but you can see a lot of tired players out there, they've had a hard season. Did they really need this game? Gareth Southgate has ended up playing probably three of his actual starting 11, a lot of them players looked tired. England deserved the win but Austria are a poor side.

  16. FULL-TIME

    England 1-0 Austria

A win for England but the big news is of an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

England may be down to the bare bones of just three right-backs heading into the Euros.

  17. Post update

    England 1-0 Austria

Michael Gregoritcsh with another header wide and that is that.

  18. Post update

    England 1-0 Austria

Entirely speculation say ITV but they feel Trent Alexander-Arnold has said "it's gone" as he came off the pitch.

France have a third against Wales with Ousmane Dembele firing home after Karim Benzema.

  20. CLOSE!

    England 1-0 Austria

I was going to say, I like this from Jordan Pickford, coming off his line confidently to punch the ball clear.

But he makes a bit of a mess of it, dropping it straight to Alessandro Schopf on the edge of the box and the Austrian midfielder's low shot is cleared off the line by Ben White.
