  1. England lose early sparkpublished at 20:57 British Summer Time 2 June 2021

    England 0-0 Austria

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at The Riverside Stadium

All pretty routine fare although Tyrone Mings can count himself very fortunate that the referee did not spot what appeared to be a clear raised arm which absolutely flattened Austria's Marco Friedl in the area. Very rash and dangerous.

It's a friendly, with half the team missing. Let's chill out, we're effectively watching training. Piling in early on the negativity isn't justified, nor is it going to help.

Germany and Denmark are drawing 0-0 at half-time in Innsbruck.

Serge Gnabry went closest to scoring just before the break when his 20-yard curler hit the angle of bar and post.

Thomas Muller almost scored on his international return but his header was straight at Kasper Schmeichel.

  4. 'Game should be over'published at 20:50 British Summer Time 2 June 2021

    HT: England 0-0 Austria

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Newcastle and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The game should've been over - England didn't take their chances, they were excellent for half an hour, great tempo and movement a lot of people carrying the ball and Austria didn't know how to play, they looked awful. England have come off the pace in the last 15 minutes and Austria have grown in confidence and started causing a threat.

After watching Bielsa ball all season, this is a very pedestrian performance by England. I think Gareth missed a trick not taking Bamford. Not making the semi's would be a poor competition, get ready for a poor one on this showing.

    Kevin, Oxford

England currently playing as individuals. Always difficult in a pre tournament friendly, but players need to play as a team. Come on England!!

Bresla Stephenson: in all the excitement of the squad selection I forgot how dull it is actually watching England play

John Caffeine: Hoping that Austria will score. We may see more from England then.

    England 0-0 Austria

    Chris Waddle

England have come off the pace, for 30 minutes Austria couldn't get near them and England had enough chances to put the game to bed there, but they haven't. They've come off the pace now and Austria have grown in confidence and are getting a bit more time on the ball where they can get up the field.

My worry with the England team is apart from Kane who is going to take responsibility for scoring goals during play. Good build up play often leads to nothing.

France have made the breakthrough against Wales, who are down to 10 men after Neco Williams was sent off earlier.

Kylian Mbappe gets the goal, pouncing after Danny Ward had done well to block Adrien Rabiot's deflected effort.

Tell you what, Austria's Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann is not lacking in much confidence on debut.

He just about squeezes out a Cruyff turn in his own area to sell Harry Kane the wrong way.

  13. CLOSE!published at 41 mins

    England 0-0 Austria

A hairy moment at the back for England as Christoph Baumgartner gets in behind and pokes a shot at goal which Tyrone Mings blocks just in front of Jordan Pickford.

The Austria player wants a penalty for handball but that would have been very harsh on Mings.

You know Croatia will be well organised, Scotland will be up for the fight and the Czech Republic are much improved on the international stage.

Which England players will step up with their creativity? Who can unlock the back door?

  15. Postpublished at 38 mins

    England 0-0 Austria

Turgid, pedestrian, boring, dull are just some of the words being used by you on the texts tonight.

    Hard to disagree?

England have made very few inroads on the Austria backline so far.

  16. CLOSE!published at 36 mins

    England 0-0 Austria

Austria working it nicely on the edge of the box and Sasa Kaladjzic gets a left-footed shot off but it is an easy collect for Jordan Pickford.

Austria have their first corner of the game which is curled in by new Real Madrid signing David Alaba but headed away at the far post by Wolves' Conor Coady.

What's a good outcome here tonight then?

Does scraping a 1-0 win tell you anything?

A 4-0, 5-0 tells you the side are in good scoring form going into a major tournament though.

  19. Postpublished at 31 mins

Half an hour gone, the score is still 0-0...for those asking.

  20. CLOSE!published at 29 mins

Harry Kane, in one-on-one, you'd put your mortgage on him scoring.

The skipper is released by Jack Grealish but from six yards out his effort is kept out by Daniel Bachmann.

The Watford man had gambled to his left and it paid off, a good stop.
