Kevin de Bruyne is the best player in the world at what he does in his position – he doesn’t play in a system he just plays where the space is. You can use him in relation to what is needed in the game and that’s such a big advantage. We used him as a false 9 against Brazil but throughout the world cup he also played as a 6 just in front of the back three then he played as a number 8 and he’s more than a playmaker.
When you speak about playmakers they are always these players in front of the centre halves who play in front of them to slow the game down to execute the pass but de Bruyne is the opposite, he accelerates the play – you can see that from his position in the final third as well as in front of back four. His intensity is exceptional.
Liverpool 0-1 Fulham
Fulham
Fulham manager Scott Parker speaking to BBC Sport: “It’s a big win. There’s a lot of emotion and I am very proud. I am happy for the players and the team because they got nothing short of what they deserved.
"In the first half I though we were fantastic. Numerous chances and we stuck to the plan in terms of how we wanted to cause them problems.
"The main thing coming into the game was ‘can we put our stamp on it?’. Easier said than done of course. In the second half you never want it to pan out that way of course.
"There was a resilience and real attitude to keep the ball out of the net and defend. It was an overall all round performance by us.
"I still wanted us to get a foothold but defensively in terms of our line, distances and key headers it was massive. We’ve had a lot of draws, where I often stand here and say 'we have just fallen short a little bit' and the way the first half went felt similar until a bit of magic from Mario [Lemina].
"We deserved this result and we have deserved better results over the last few weeks.”
Liverpool 0-1 Fulham
Liverpool
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to Sky Sports: “Fulham will cause us problems – it’s clear. They’re in a good moment, they’re a good team. We all agree a team like this should stay in the Premier League.
“There were moments we could have had more of an impact on the game. Conceding that goal before half-time was a massive blow. We tried to react and the boys showed that. In the end we don’t score goals and that’s a big problem.
“We never had a momentum in the season. You can see it’s still in the boys. They still have it all but at the moment can’t show it. It would be a masterpiece to find out how we change that overnight.
“[On suggestions Fulham players wanted it more] The winner is always right. My boys wanted it. It’s easy to judge they have won it so wanted it more. I don’t think that’s the problem.
“I don’t have to stand here and say we’re fighting for this or that.”

To win titles you need to have a special brain, bring clarity to the players and have a real contagious way of working. That’s Pep Guardiola, not just at Man City and in the Premier League, it’s what he’s done in Germany and Barcelona.
I think he’s a person that is infectious the way he demands high standards. He’s very intelligent and able to adapt and change to what’s needed. I think it’s difficult to counter act that and match the intensity that team will have - the hunger, the desire.
Tactically you need to find different answers which is what Pep has found, he’s found different ways, different partnerships. There’s never an excuse if one or both number 9's are injured the team plays with no number 9's and have the same threat and accumulate the same number of players in the final third.
You wouldn’t say they’ve been outstanding in every game but they’ve reached a level of confidence and belief and feel that they could step it up again if they needed to.
Liverpool 0-1 Fulham
Fulham
Fulham boss Scott Parker to Sky Sports: "The first half, we were what I wanted us to look like. I had full belief we could come here and get something.
"In the first half we had chances. The boys stuck to the plan and we were well worthy of the first goal. In the second half you don’t plan dynamics to go like that. We showed another side to us – character, resilience, dogedness. I'm very proud of the team today.
"Mario came up with a lovely strike. I’m very honest and I said to the players before the way we’re playing things will change. Today we were on the right side of that.
"There's momentum with us as a team. It’s irrelevant who we’re bringing into it or the points difference until the end of the season. When the curtain comes down, we'll work out whether we were good enough or not.
"I’m pleased for the lads. I’m pleased they got what they deserved. For large parts of this season, we’ve not managed to get what we deserve."
Liverpool 0-1 Fulham
The two sides directly above them do have a game in hand but it is hard to argue against Fulham being the side with momentum down there right now.
Fancy them to get out of it?
Liverpool 0-1 Fulham
Four points adrift of fourth having played a game more, Liverpool need to quickly rediscover their mojo if they are going to get into the top four.
They could slip down to ninth if the teams below them win their games in hand.
Liverpool 0-1 Fulham
Fulham
Fulham midfielder Mario Lemina speaking to BBC Sport: “We are happy. We are struggling at the moment and it is hard to be at the bottom of the league but we still believe in our quality and we showed in the first half we can play against a big opponent and in the second half we showed good character. It is three good points for us.
“Honestly I am not going to lie, I was scared because they need to win some games. But I was so confident in my team. We have showed in all the games we have played that we play good football and deserve to be higher in the league.
“In the last game I missed a big, big chance and I wanted to say I can score. It’s a good goal because we win the game.
On what has changed: “I don’t know. We are just working so hard. I think we deserve better than this. We got the luck that we…..sorry I am losing my [train of thought] I am so tired.”
On staying up: "It depends on us and the way we play the other games. If we play like that I think we will stay up."
Manchester City v Manchester United (16:30 GMT)
Glenn Murray
Nottingham Forest striker on BBC Radio 5 live
It is City's title and Manchester United are concentrating on trying to secure a place in the top four and hopefully second spot.
For the rest of the Premier League it keeps it slightly entertaining if Manchester United take three points off City and keeps them in relative touching distance.
Hear more from Murray on the BBC's Football Daily podcast.
Liverpool 0-1 Fulham
Fulham
Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed speaking to Sky Sports: “It's massive. We came here with confidence. We knew if we could get something it would stand us in great stead. The manager breathed belief into us. He talked about coming here and winning. Not getting a point. Coming here and winning.
“The first half was superb, one of our best performances of the season. We knew they were going to come hard and we would have to dig in and put our bodies on the line and we did that.
“We did want it more and that was evident on the pitch and a big factor in getting three points today.
On momentum: “I think we feel that. We have been building. We have grown massively since the start of the season and I think everyone at home and in the league can see that as well."

Former Manchester City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live
When I played in the derby we were heavy underdogs whereas City now are usually heavy favourites. The way we played there was nothing expected of us we just had to make it as competitive as possible - United were better than us they were the more successful team. You go out there and just try and remind them that this is a derby and it's different to any other game.
These days, they're playing for more than just the derby because these two teams are now direct rivals for trophies. That's not something that I really experienced in my career but now a derby has that added edge. Knowing that City could theoretically end the title race today against their biggest rival is massive and the energy from that is huge.
Thanks Emlyn! The Manchester derby is going to have to go some to top that. A cracking win for Fulham and one you must really feel now gives them the edge over those around them in the battle against the drop.
As for Liverpool, what next? It's some slump in form.
We'll bring you reaction from Anfield ASAP but it's time for Gary Rose to start looking ahead to the Manchester derby.

Jonny: Opportunity missed for Fulham. Settling for 1-0 when they could’ve really improved their goal difference today.
Ashwin: Worst champions in Premier League history.

Pat Nevin
Former Everton and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live
We talked before the game mostly about Liverpool but let's give credit to Fulham. Every player was in a big huddle in the penalty area at the end of the game. It was such a brilliant group effort. Scott Parker has done a brilliant job and understood when to change it, getting the best out of those players.
Everton and Chelsea will also be delighted by that result.
Liverpool 0-1 Fulham
This is the first time Liverpool have lost six successive home matches in the club's history.
It is also the longest top-flight home losing streak by a reigning champion.
Liverpool 0-1 Fulham
It's all over. It's a SIXTH defeat in a row for Liverpool at Anfield.
Fulham move to within touching distance of safety. They are only behind Brighton on goal difference now.
