The amount of goals City get from getting in behind and then someone in the six-yard box tapping into an empty, net we haven't seen them get behind at all really so far. Man United are playing deep, Harry Maguire's on a booking so he'll have to be careful. It's an intriguing tactical battle.

Ilkay Gundogan's had a few lovely touches and at times City do look better with a false nine so maybe Pep Guardiola will look at that in the second half.

Entertaining first half - Anthony Martial cutting in on that left side, good decision from the referee for the penalty and Bruno Fernandes tucks the penalty way despite the big hand from Ederson. It's been very entertaining but not many chances.

Players giving the ball away at times it's been a bit frantic.

Half time and a very entertaining half. Manchester United have the lead but Manchester City have certainly had chances.

Manchester City sweep forward with Kevin de Bruyne leading the attack. He feeds the ball wide to Riyad Mahrez, who drives a shot that goes just wide of the far post with Gabriel Jesus sliding in just too late to turn home.

Marcus Rashford finds Bruno Fernandes, who sidesteps Kevin de Bruyne on the edge of the area but rushes his pass out wide and the ball rolls out of play.

Almost perfect timing there Russell as Kevin de Bruyne sees a wicked free kick tipped over by Dean Henderson.

Manchester City again are unable to make something happen from the corner, however.

Manchester City's possessional dominance has a more familiar look to it now. All they are a missing is a goal.

It has been a while since the Manchester City defence had anything to do but Fred gets into the box with five minutes to go until the break but John Stones calmly steps across to take the ball and clear.

Ilkay Gündogan's influence is growing as now he works a bit of space for himself on the edge of the area and fires a shot off at goal but it is too close to Dean Henderson.

Right idea from Manchester City as Raheem Sterling darts between Manchester United defenders and Ilkay Gündogan plays the ball forward but there's just a bit too much on the ball and Dean Henderson is there to it first.

Manchester City now getting some possession and starting to look dangerous but Manchester United very solid so far.

One factor has been Kevin De Bruyne's struggles. He looks very much out of touch - but you would not expect 90 minutes to pass without a key contribution from such a world-class performer.

Kevin de Bruyne's passing accuracy is just 66.7% at the moment.

Manchester City are growing into the game but De Bruyne is, by his own exceptionally high standards, not yet at his best.

Harry Maguire picks up the first booking of the game as the defender swipes late on Gabriel Jesus.

Manchester United look to get down the left flank at any opportunity, looking for Marcus Rashford to use his pace to get at Joao Cancelo.

Attacks from the visitors have been rare in the last 10 minutes or so but Rashford is picked out this time but Cancelo holds his ground well.

João Cancelo's shot is deflected wide and, with almost 30 minutes on the clock, we have the game's first corner.

It's not one worth waiting for as Manchester United clear.

Paul Collins: City will still win this game. Any defence with Maguire and lindelof in is still always susceptible to stupid mistakes regardless of how well they start a game.
