    FT: Newcastle 2-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about making the top four, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho added: "People say that because Chelsea lost, we have the chance. If it was [just] Chelsea then I'd say we were three points behind and now it's two.

"But it's not [just] about Chelsea. It's Liverpool, it's Everton, it's West Ham - there's a lot of teams that are there."

On the news that some fans are set to attend the Carabao Cup final, Mourinho said: "There's not many but at the same time it's better than nobody. For somebody that [has been] playing without fans, it's good news.

"We'll try to finish the season the best we can in terms of spectators. Let's see what happens during the Euros. That's a 'pre' for next season, so let's see next season if everything comes back to normality for football and for life."

Spurs' Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: "We had it in our hands. We should win the game as well, so definitely not satisfied. The Premier League is too good and too fast to do one inch less.

"I thought we had the chances and were dominating a big part of the game. We had some good, well-played chances and counter-attacks. I don't really understand how or why we let it go.

"I'm annoyed that we don't kill the game and don't see it out."

  7. 'We create instability with our mistakes'published at 16:33 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    FT: Newcastle 2-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho speaking to the BBC: "The Premier League is hard and is high-level football, and when in some actions you don't show that you belong to that high level of football, it's difficult.

"We made mistakes. We made defensive mistakes that lead to instability. In the first half we were always in control, even in the second half when we had the ball we didn't have any problems.

"We could have scored a couple more, but in defensive situations we create instability with our mistakes - and instability brings hope to our opponent, and our opponent didn't give up. I had the same feeling and I'm on the bench. It's difficult to have the feeling of absolute control because I know that what happened can happen.

"You cannot score three, four, five goals every match. You come away from home and score two goals... we cannot ask for lots of goals every match, many times it's not possible.

"It's not just about the defensive mistakes that lead to goals, we have situations where we have the ball and I know already the ball is going to end with Hugo Lloris. That's the way we sometimes create instability to ourselves. We gave the chance to the opportunity to push up."

  10. I'm frustrated, we needed to win the match - Mourinhopublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    FT: Newcastle 2-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I am frustrated. We needed to win the match and we came to win. We were not far from winning it but, at the same time, we created some instability on the game with so many individual defensive mistakes that we made. We always gave Newcastle a chance to be in the game.

"Of course, we had the biggest chance of the game to make it 3-1 and kill it, then we concede a game the next minute."

When it's put to Mourinho that his teams are normally so good at holding onto leads, he replied: "Same coach, different players."

Asked if he has more work to do with the Spurs' players, Mourinho added: "I don't think so. We work well, we work hard. But there are mistakes which I probably shouldn't even call mistakes because they are related to qualities that players have.

"Looking at the second goal, it's easy to understand because there's three different moments - the cross, the ball at the far post where they won it, and then the ball in the face of the goal where our two centre-backs were in position. You can analyse it easily."

  13. 'We put up with nonsense'published at 16:25 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    FT: Newcastle 2-2 Tottenham

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce to Sky Sports: "We're pleased but in my opinion it should have been three points. I thought we were the better side. It was as good as I've seen us play for a long, long time. Just disappointed we haven't won it. You take a point. I'm really pleased with the performance.

"All this nonsense we get thrown at us. The spirit and the togetherness in the camp is always going to be there. We have to put up with so much nonsense. The response from the players was clear to see. The spirit is never in doubt. The performance is what we're looking for after such a poor one. To come out and perform against a very good team like Tottenham, I thought the players were excellent.

"That was arguably as good I've seen Joelinton play for us. Probably the easiest thing to do is stick it in the net. His touch is immaculate. He plays with great effort and endeavour. But his all round game today was terrific.

"It's important we stay there [at this performance level]. We put the work in again tomorrow. We have a crucial few weeks. There's a lot of football to be played but if we stay at that level I'm confident we will be okay."

Another belter of a day in Birmingham but the flags atop Villa Park suggest a bit of a crossfire hurricane out there.

  15. 'If we perform like that we'll be fine'published at 16:20 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    FT: Newcastle 2-2 Tottenham

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's Matt Ritchie: "If you analyse the goals we deserve more but we know they're a good team. We made two errors and they punished us.

"It was disappointing [to concede straight after scoring]. I thought we reacted really well, especially after the last few weeks. Second half, we were fantastic.

"I've been champing at the bit to get back in. I've done all I can in training to get back in [the team].

"We know it's going to be a tough run-in. Every game's tough in this league. Fulham look fantastic at the moment and we know we need to pull away from them. If we perform like that for the remaining few games, we'll be fine."

Tottenham striker Harry Kane speaking to BBC: "Whenever you are ahead in a game, as we have been a lot this season, and you give the lead away in the last 5-10 minutes, it's always hard to take. I feel like we could have played better in the second half. We were a bit sloppy. We didn't take our chances and got punished for it.

"I think we had some good chances. The final ball, final pass or final touch weren't quite there. That's the fine margins. We need to play better. We need to dust ourselves off and go again next week.

"Their goal woke us up a little bit if I'm being honest. We reacted really well and scored two quick goals then finished the half well. We didn't take that momentum with us [into the second half] and allowed Newcastle back into the game. It's always hard to respond with four or five minutes to go."

  18. Postpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

A few of you have asked and I can now confirm - Tottenham have dropped 11 points due to goals conceded in the final 10 minutes of games this season, the most of any Premier League side.

The amount of points lost by Spurs from winning positions this season, there comes a time you just have to accept these players are mentally weak. I don't believe any manager can get a tune out of weak minded players, Mourinho going won't make any difference.

    FT: Newcastle 2-2 Tottenham

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's goalscorer Joe WIllock talking to Match of the Day: "I was dismayed to be on the bench, I wanted to make an impact as soon as I come on. I'm happy I could do that. I thought the boys really played well today. To play against such a top team and play like that will give us massive belief going forward.

"It was a long two weeks. A lot of people were doubting us and really getting on to us, that can eradicate a few of the doubters.

"We can't lay on this. We need to get three points but I feel like if we can do that on another day we'll get them. Collectively, as a team, we're really fighting. Every day in training we're pushing each other to continue getting points.

"I feel like we can do it, we have the abillity in the squad and the willingness to do it, and we all believe in the manager to give us the right tactics to go out there and do it."
