Burnley boss Sean Dyche is optimistic about plans for the club following "healthy and open" talks with new chairman Alan Pace.

Pace has been in situ a little over three months, following the takeover by ALK Capital, and has already backed Dyche as the man to take the Clarets forward.

Asked if Pace has some strong ideas on the way forward, Dyche said: "Some, but not on the football side. He said 'the football side is your world'. "The idea of the planning and business side of the club, the changes they want to try and make, that's their side.

"But they're not going to start telling me what I should or shouldn't be doing on the football side. That's clear, he's made that clear, he likes, like any chairman, to know what's going on. Rightly so, but he's not going to start telling me what I should or shouldn't be doing, I'm pretty clear on that.

"Rather than generalisations, we want a really good plan of attack of where we are as a club and what their thoughts are and then where I think it is. We join that together and see where we can take it."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "Some of the players got some sharpness back during the break, that rest was needed and hopefully we'll see that in the performance.

"We have to work hard for everything we get, the minimum requirement is maximum effort.

"We have picked up results against big sides but now we have to deliver on a weekly basis. We are on a good run and we need consistency of performance."

Southampton have made two changes to the side which started their FA Cup win over Bournemouth on 20 March, with Theo Walcott and Danny Ings coming back in.

Walcott has been out since January with a thigh injury while Ings has missed the Saints' last three games. They come in for Moussa Djenepo and Che Adams.

Captain James Ward-Prowse is able to keep his place after the England midfielder picked up a calf issue on international duty.

Southampton's starting XI: Forster, Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Bertrand, Armstrong, Ward-Prowse, Diallo, Walcott, Ings, Redmond.

Subs: Stephens, Adams, Djenepo, Minamino, Salisu, Tella, Ferry, Jankewitz, McCarthy.

Burnley are unchanged after winning 2-1 at Everton last time out. That was on 13 March so the Clarets have had extra time to recharge their batteries.

Republic of Ireland winger Robbie Brady suffered an Achilles injury on international duty, though, so he is not on the bench, but Charlie Taylor and Jack Cork are back in the squad.

Burnley's starting XI: Pope, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Pieters, Gudmundsson, Westwood, Brownhill, McNeil, Vydra, Wood.

Subs: Taylor, Cork, Stephens, Rodriguez, Nartey, Dunne, Richardson, Driscoll-Glennon, Peacock-Farrell.

  6. 'Both teams need a win'published at 11:10 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    Southampton v Burnley (12:00 BST)

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl: "It was important to work through some issues during the break, we had enough players here to work on a few things. They had enough time off.

"It's important that Danny Ings and Theo Walcott have trained with us for the last few weeks which has allowed me to rest a few guys who have travelled a lot.

"You know you won't get many chances against Burnley. Both teams need a win today, it gives them space to the relegation zone."

  7. Fans back! Soon! Sort of!published at 11:09 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    Big news this morning.

The Carabao Cup final between Tottenham and Manchester City will have 8,000 fans in attendance after it was confirmed as a pilot event to test the return of big crowds.

A proportion of tickets will be made available to both clubs for the game at Wembley Stadium on 25 April.

The rest will be given to local residents in Brent and NHS staff.

Rick Parry, chair of the English Football League (EFL), said it was an "important milestone".

On 18 April, the FA Cup semi-final between Leicester City and Southampton will have 4,000 fans while the final on 15 May will welcome 21,000 spectators.

    Southampton v Burnley (12:00 BST)

2021 has been a bad year in the Premier League for Southampton.

Just one win in their last 12 games - plus the small matter of 10 defeats - has seen them drawn back into the wider relegation conversation.

They should be safe, sure. But they will need some points on the board at some stage.

Can they, or visitors Burnley, edge that step closer to safety today?
