  1. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 3-1 Fulhampublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    Ollie Watkins (87 mins)

And that is why teams get relegated - Fulham have capitulated here. They have found a way to lose a game they looked so comfortable in.

Villa have a third and it's brilliant work from Bertrand Traore, who twists and turns on the right-hand side of the box and flashes in a dangerous low ball that finds Ollie Watkins unmarked just a few yards out.

The new England forward can't miss.

In the aftermath of that goal Fulham made two changes - on came Josh Onomah and Josh Maja for Mario Lemina and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

What a difference a few minutes can make. Fulham were out of the bottom three and now Trezeguet has dumped them right back in it.

What were we saying, that Trezeguet looked like a player who hasn't scored in 20 games? It's a good finish [for the first goal], he just guides it with his left foot into the bottom corner. Very good finish.

Fulham were starting to tire. Maybe Scott Parker feels he should have made changes earlier.

  6. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 2-1 Fulhampublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    Trezeguet (81 mins)

    Blimey!

Steve Bruce may never have celebrated a Villa goal more - including when he was the boss! Keinan Davis wins the ball back from Tosin, bullies him, and puts over a fine ball for Trezeguet to run onto.

He has work to do but controls the volley really well, sidefooting home.

    Two goals in three minutes.

He's on one now - Trezeguet whistles a half-volley over the top from the corner of the area...

  8. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 1-1 Fulhampublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    Trezeguet (78 mins)

It's another huge goal in the relegation fight and Tyrone Mings has some sort of absolution for his earlier error!

The centre-half ends up overlapping on the left wing, looks up and puts in a fine ball that finds Trezeguet in the middle. His first-time shot is low, hard and true and beats Alphonse Areola all ends up.

And that's a good chance, probably Villa's best. Bertrand Traore's cross from deep on the right is a good one, Trezeguet's run to meet it is a good one, but his header is dreadful and well wide.

    Aston Villa 0-1 Fulham

Villa make another change and it's Jacob Ramsey on for Douglas Luiz. There's their first effort on target too, Bertrand Traore hitting a swerving shot well from 25 yards but it's an easy one for Alphonse Areola to fall on.

  11. 'Fulham are going to sit back'published at 18:03 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    Aston Villa 0-1 Fulham

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

You can see now what Fulham want to do - they've got their goal, they're going to sit back and play on the counter-attack.

  12. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Aston Villa 0-1 Fulham

Villa have been poor today but they've had a fine season and are clearly missing their best player. Plus Fulham have the perfect motivation to find a win here.

Villa do force a corner but it comes to nothing before Harrison Reed curls wildly wide for Fulham.

Tom Sharpe: Villa as a team are building, this is largely the same squad as last year. I doubt most of the midfield will still be in the first 11 next season. Yes, it's worrying the lack of creativity without Grealish, but that's something that Smith will change over the Summer

  14. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 68 mins

Villa have got to do something, they haven't looked close to a goal all day. On come Keinan Davis and Trezeguey for Morgan Sanson and Anwar el Ghazi.

Aleksandar Mitrovic had not scored with his last 45 shots in the Premier League. Reward for persistence if nothing else.

  17. 'Mitrovic has been sharp all afternoon'published at 17:54 British Summer Time 4 April 2021

    Aston Villa 0-1 Fulham

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Aleksandar Mitrovic been sharp all afternoon. It's a terrible backpass but he's still got a lot to do there. He does ever so well, goes around Emi Martinez, steadies himself and puts it in the back of the net.

That goal will give him even more confidence going forward.

That goal is seismic. Newcastle are now in the relegation zone.

    HUGE GOAL.

For Fulham, and for Newcastle. So perhaps it's fitting that Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored it.

It's rank from Tyrone Mings, who makes a total hash of a routine backpass and coughs it up to the Serbian striker. Mitrovic has a bit to do but makes it look easy, dancing around the stranded Emiliano Martinez and firing in.
