  1. Keeping the Austrians at baypublished at 19:34

    Scotland v Austria (19:45)

Scotland's defence will have their hands full tonight in trying to combat Sasa Kalajdzic - all 6ft 7in of him.

The VfB Stuttgart striker, the Austrian equivalent of Hen Broon or Peter Crouch, will be aiming to cause fear and alarm in the penalty area.

  2. 'Many' selection headaches for Clarkepublished at 19:32

    Scotland v Austria (19:45)

Scotland boss Steve Clarke is asked how many selection headaches [if having lots of good players actually gives gaffers a sore bonce] he endured in picking his XI tonight.

"Many," is Clarke's response to Sky Sports. "But when you look at the bench you realise the strength we’ve got in this squad now which is great for everybody. Big decisions to make and hopefully the boys we’ve selected can get us off to a good start."

What of Scott McTominay shifting from his previous Scotland role of centre-back to the middle of the park?

Steve Clarke hopes Jack Hendry can "fill some big shoes"

"Losing Ryan Jack [to injury] made it a little more inevitable. Putting Scott forward should give us good athleticism and quality in midfield.

"It’ll be interesting to see how young Jack Hendry does, out the picture for a little while but had a great season at Oostende and hopefully he can step in and fill some big shoes."

Neil: Tierney overlapping with Robbo on the left. As a Scotland fan, that must be hugely exciting.

  7. Brown poised for 'new chapter' at Aberdeenpublished at 19:11

    Scotland v Austria (19:45)

Celtic captain Scott Brown has signed a pre-contract with Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen in a player-coach role.

The Pittodrie club confirmed that the 35-year-old former Scotland skipper will move north in the summer.

Brown, who will join new manager Stephen Glass' backroom staff after 14 years at Celtic, said it was "a new chapter" in his career.

Glass, who is moving from Atlanta United 2, said Brown's arrival signals a "coup" for Aberdeen.

"The opportunity to join Aberdeen, a club entering an exciting new period with my former team-mate Stephen [Glass] now at the helm, was one I couldn't pass up," said Brown.

FmDafty: Jack Hendry must be playing well at his club, looking forward to seeing how he gets on. C'mon Scotland!

Robert: Faith shown in Hendry tonight hope he performs. Christie to win it - he plays well when he pulls on the dark blue shirt.

Jack Hendry deserves to be in tonight. One of his main qualities is stepping into the space in front of the defence and passing the ball. For his height, he is lightning quick and he is excellent on the ball.

  11. Boys Dane Wellpublished at 18:50

Elsewhere in Group F, Denmark have coasted to a 2-0 victory over Israel in Tel Aviv.

Martin Braithwaite and Jonas Wind scored the goals for the Danes, who will prove a big fish in the group.

We rely on team spirit in these types of games. Can we stay solid together? And then on the break can we create a chance or two and make sure we can take it. We don't blitz teams in games like this.

  13. Who are Austria's dangermen?published at 18:40

    David Alaba

Probably the most famous of the current Austrian squad, Bayern Munich's Alaba plays most of his club games at centre-half beside German Jerome Boateng, including last August's Champions League final win over Paris St-Germain.

David Alaba can play across a number of positions

But, he tends to play anywhere but there for Austria and may pitch up at left midfield at Hampden. The 28-year-old is leaving the Bavarians on a free transfer at the end of the season, someone is in for a bargain with a host of big guns linked.

    Christoph Baumgartner

The young Hoffenheim midfielder is pushing for a start in the Austrian engine room against the Scots with captain and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Julian Baumgartlinger out injured. A very promising attacking midfielder, he has been one of the biggest threats to Bundesliga defences this season and recently signed a contract extension to ward off interest.

    Marcel Sabitzer

The RB Leipzig skipper is a class act, as Celtic will remember from his Europa League clashes with them at his current club and before that, with Salzburg. And he's in form as well, his winner and eighth goal of the season, against Arminia at the weekend, kept the pressure on Bundesliga leaders Bayern. He netted seven of Austria's goals during the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

There are two aspects that worry me. It is a completely brand new back three and then how are we going to create? Christie isn’t on form, and it is the same for Dykes. We have a problem scoring goals so this is a bit of concern.

    Neil McCann

    Quote Message

This back three can become a back four easily enough with Roberston staying in the middle. It is a fluid side, solid at the back with plenty of pace. Scott McTominay adds extra security so this is an incredibly secure team.

Stuart Armstrong, with the form he's been in, has forced his way into the team. Callum McGregor has done really well over the past couple of games [I've watched Celtic's games] and thought, 'yeah, you're getting back to your best' and I thought McGregor would start.

I think Hanley instead of Gallagher is a surprise. Managers are there to make these tough decisions and he [Steve Clarke] is the man who has been watching these players very closely. It's a decision based on form, in my opinion.

  20. Send for Jack Hendry?published at 18:18

    Quote Message

I actually think that Jack Hendry should play at centre-back. I had Jack at Dundee and he was exceptional in the back-three because he's so mobile, he's been having an unbelievable season on loan in Belgium, and his stats show he's the best defender in the league. It's really important if you're playing with three centre-backs that they're mobile on the outsides, that they can get into the full-back areas and are comfortable doing so. I think he's tailor-made for that position.
