  1. goal

GOAL Scotland 2-0 Faroe Islandspublished at 52 mins

    John McGinn

What a goal! Two goals for John McGinn and two assists for Kieran Tierney.

Andy Robertson tees up Tierney on the left, the Arsenal full-back turns his marker before clipping in a wonderful cross and McGinn rises to bullet a header home into the bottom corner.

That's a cracking header and just what the doctor ordered for Scotland after a shaky spell.

  2. McLean a whisker awaypublished at 52 mins

    Scotland 1-0 Faroe Islands

Kenny McLean shows some nimble footwork inside the box that wouldn't look out of place on Strictly... but he can't manage to get a shot away as the Faroe Islands recover to repel the danger.

  3. Gordon gathers more comfortablypublished at 50 mins

    Scotland 1-0 Faroe Islands

Better from Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon, much better. The keeper purges the memory of his earlier jitters, gathering a low cross comfortably at his near post.

We could do with a second, and I think it will come. Another goal would let the players enjoy themselves more, maybe even someone like Nisbet would get on. Overall, it's been what I've expected so far.

  6. CLOSE!published at 46 mins

    Scotland 1-0 Faroe Islands

Heart in the mouth stuff in the opening minute of the second half. Craig Gordon comes out to claim a cross but grabs at the ball without any kind of confidence, like a man trying to stop a pickle dropping from his fish supper.

Somehow, Scotland survive and their 1-0 lead remains intact.

We'd have liked a second goal but it's gone the way we thought it would. We need to show a bit of patience but I think the second goal will come. Hopefully, we get it early on so we can go out and enjoy ourselves.

Lyndon Dykes doesn't look himself out there. I don't know whether his move down south has had an effect on him. At Livingston anything was a bonus, there's a different level of pressure now, especially for Scotland.

It was a wonderful save from Craig Gordon. Being switched on keeps your side in games like this. We expect our goalies to pull off those types of saves and he's done it brilliantly there.

It was a brilliant start, out the blocks flying and we got that goal we wanted. I think the Faores will tire as the game goes on, Scotland are working them very hard especially on the left side through Kieran Tierney and if they keep that up more goals will come.

  12. Tierney on top formpublished at 20:39

    HT: Scotland 1-0 Faroe Islands

Kieran Tierney has been instrumental in a lot of Scotland's best work in the opening 45 minutes.

The Arsenal defender set up John McGinn's opener and has proved a headache for the visitors with his runs down the left.

Tierney is almost playing like a player at 5s or 7s who bombs forward in search of a late, late goal before the owners flash the lights to indicate it's time-up...

  14. HALF-TIME Scotland 1-0 Faroe Islandspublished at 20:31

Scotland go into the break ahead, courtesy of John McGinn's goal in the seventh minute.

The hosts have impressed down the left but have not been able to add to their early breakthrough.

Craig Gordon saved brilliantly to deny the Faroe Islands in a rare foray forward for the visitors.

Food for thought for Steve Clarke.

Another great touch from Kieran Tierney back into the park and then he has a strike at goal. A little bit disappointing with his strike though as it's straight at the keeper.

  16. Tierney shines in first halfpublished at 42 mins

    Scotland 1-0 Faroe Islands

Kieran Tierney, who has been Scotland's most impressive performer at Hampden, collects a long diagonal from Callum McGregor.

The Arsenal defender steps inside his man before sending a low shot at goal. It's on target but doesn't seriously trouble Nielsen.

  17. 'Disappointing finish'published at 20:26

    Scotland 1-0 Faroe Islands

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

It was really tight to slide a pass through to the strikers there for Callum McGregor. It had opened up for him but he's leaning back and hits it poorly. It is a disappointing finish from McGregor.

  18. Can Scotland double lead before break?published at 38 mins

    Scotland 1-0 Faroe Islands

Steve Clarke's side are enjoying more and more possession but still only have John McGinn's goal to show for their dominance.

Callum McGregor finds himself in space but with neither Lyndon Dykes or Che Adams in close support.

McGregor, making his 29th Scotland appearance, fires a shot at goal but it's way off target - he's still looking for his first international goal.

  19. 'McTominay unlucky'published at 20:22

    Scotland 1-0 Faroe Islands

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

It's a great delivery from Ryan Fraser, into a very difficult area to defend. Scott McTominay can't quite direct his header on target and he's unlucky in the end there.
