That wraps up our live coverage of the Scottish Cup third round, as a festival of Easter football draws to a close.

Hibs were dominant and destructive tonight, powering past Queen of the South and into the last 16, where they'll travel to Stranraer, Win that, and a home quarter-final against Motherwell or Morton beckons.

A long way to go, but it's an enticing opportunity for the Leith men to get back to Hampden.

Thanks for your company tonight, and enjoy the rest of your bank holiday Monday.

  2. 'Ruthlessness' pleases Hibs bosspublished at 21:56 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

FT: Queen of the South 1-3 Hibernian

Hibernian head coach Jack Ross tells BBC Scotland: "What we had worked on, what we expected, was what we faced.

"We carry a threat on the counter; we've got good pace and players who can pick passes. We've players who work hard to get forward and show a ruthlessness when they get there."

Asked about Queens penalty shout when Stephen Dobbie hit the deck in the box, Ross was adamant the referee made the correct decision.

He said: "I didn't think it was a penalty at the time and I've watched it again and I still don't think it is."

Tonight was a step too far for Queen of South, but they still have plenty to play for this season.

They start with the visit of Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday, as Allan Johnston's men look to force their way into the Championship play-off spots.

  5. Should Queens have had a penalty?published at 21:50 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

FT: Queen of the South 1-3 Hibernian

Queen of the South manager Allan Johnston tells BBC Scotland: "Against top teams you need to take your chances. Once they're 2-0 ahead it's obviously very difficult.

"We had to open up and try and get something out of the game. But we've got to learn, that's the kind of standard we want to try and be at."

The hosts claimed for a penalty in the lead-up to Hibs' second goal as Stephen Dobbie tumbled to ground under pressure from Joe Newell.

Johnston said: "I've not seen it again, but looking at it from where we were there was definitely contact. It's a big moment in the game."

  7. Doidge aims to 'go one better'published at 21:44 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

FT: Queen of the South 1-3 Hibernian

Hibernian striker and man of the match Christian Doidge bagged a double tonight, and scored in last season's semi-final defeat by Hearts.

He tells BBC Scotland: "It was a game of two halves, I think. The goal before half-time really helped us. It was a difficult first half.

"As soon as we started passing the ball about we managed to control the game a bit.

"Hopefully we can go one better [in the cup] this year."

  8. Boyle hails second-half displaypublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

FT: Queen of the South 1-3 Hibernian

Hibernian winger Martin Boyle tells BBC Scotland: "The first half, weather was a bit wild, but it calmed down in the second and we got the ball down and played and had a good performance.

"I think it was just trying to get the ball as wide as possible, isolate one-v-ones and keep the ball moving. We were disappointed not to keep a clean sheet but delighted to make the next round.

"Going to Ibrox at the weekend will be difficult, and Stranraer is another tricky tie, they’ll be wanting to cause a cup upset, but hopefully we can produce the same result we did tonight."

FT: Queen of the South 1-3 Hibernian

Joe Newell is such a vital cog in this Hibs machine. Ice-cool in possession, steely without it, and with a fabulous eye for a pass.

Here he is dispossessing Stephen Dobbie - who rather ambitiously claimed for a penalty - before storming downfield, and cleverly playing in Doidge to make it 2-0.

When Hibs play like they did in that second half, they are devastating. The two strikers were getting much better service. That's what you want to see from Hibs.

  13. FULL-TIME Queen of the South 1-3 Hibernianpublished at 21:33 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

A job well done for Hibernian, with minimal fuss. Stranraer await in the last 16.

After a sticky opening, perhaps hindered by rust having not played in a couple of weeks, Hibs bossed this one.

Christian Doidge slotted the opener on the stroke of half-time, and clipped home the second 12 minutes into the new half. Martin Boyle wrapped up the win with a clinical, dinked finish three minutes later.

So many attacking threats in Jack Ross' team. Such a compelling second-half display, with aggression, intelligence, and ruthless finishing.

It could have been more, too. Kevin Nisbet and Doidge spurned big opportunities late on.

In amongst it all, James Maxwell netted a terrific solo goal for Queens, but it was always likely to be in vain.

I'm going to have to go for Doidge. For his two goals obviously, but also the way he led the line well and his work rate for the team as well.

Nisbet should score. He snatches at it. He should just curl it. That's a great chance for him to kill the game.

Wow, that should be a fourth Hibs goal, no question.

Ayo Obileye makes an awful hash of a speculative bouncing ball, allowing Kevin Nisbet to spin free inside the Queens box.

The Scotland striker seems to be caught in two minds as to how to take it on, and in the end, lashes well wide. It's a bad miss.

Thunderous tackle from Paul Hanlon on Ciaran Dickson, who is absolutely wiped out by the 50-50. Yellow card for the Hibs skipper. Enticing free-kick opportunity for Queens...

... and it's a colossal waste. Joe McKee swerves it all the way over the chasing attackers and out for a goal kick.
