Queen of the South have never won this competition, the closest they came an agonising loss to Rangers in the thrilling showpiece of 2008.

A second-tier side at the time, Queens came back from 2-0 down at Hampden in a blistering second half to level the game, before Kris Boyd won it for Rangers in the final quarter.

A certain Stephen Dobbie, then 25 years old, was up front for the Doonhamers that afternoon.

Right, Hibs fans, this is your obligatory reference to 2016.

David Gray, 90+2, 114 years... you know the script.

Non-Hibs fans, it was in 2016 that Hibs ended their infamously long wait to lift this trophy, beating Rangers in the final. What they'd give for another glory day at Hampden.

Queen of the South v Hibernian (19:45)

Unsurprisingly, Queen of the South have gone with the same XI that conquered Tynecastle last time out.

Allan Johnston places faith in the team that won in Gorgie for the first time in nearly 60 years.

Connor Shields, the two-goal man in the 3-2 triumph, partners Stephen Dobbie up top.

  4. Macey in goals for Hibernianpublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

Queen of the South v Hibernian (19:45)

Goalkeeper Matt Macey makes his third appearance of the season for Hibernian, replacing Ofir Marciano. Polish stopper Kevin Dabrowski also takes a spot on the bench with Marciano missing from the squad after a delayed return from international duty.

The 26-year-old Macey has already played at Celtic Park in a 1-1 draw, and kept a clean sheet in Hibs' 2-0 home win over Kilmarnock in January.

The goalkeeping changes apart, it's very much as you were for Hibs as they stick with the same side that drew 1-1 with Livingston just over two weeks ago.

  6. The promotion bidpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

Queen of the South v Hibernian (19:45)

Alright, the Championship is a bit of a bonkers league this season. So few points separate so many teams.

Queen of the South are sixth just now, six points off second-placed Raith Rovers, yet only five clear of second-bottom Arbroath.

Only three sides have scored more goals than Queens, but only one - basement-dwelling Alloa - have conceded more.

    Like I said, bonkers.

It'll be a big test for Hibs. Queens recruited very well in January. Hibs will also have to contend with the artificial park. I would say it's the worst pitch in all four leagues. It's a horrendous surface.

  8. Head-to-headpublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

Queen of the South v Hibernian (19:45)

As you'd expect, Hibernian have the better head-to-head record as far as league matches are concerned, having spent three seasons in the Championship between 2014 and 2017. In fact, Hibs have won the past three meetings with an aggregate scoreline of 8-0.

But when it comes to cup matches, it's Queens who have the edge.

They dumped Hibs out of the League Cup in 2016, shortly after Neil Lennon had taken over, with a 3-1 triumph in Leith. And they'd done so in 2012 too, with Nicky Clark and Gavin Reilly on the scoresheet in a 2-0 Palmerston win.
