The Hibs social media admins have been banging this drum for a while. Doidge for Wales?

  2. CLOSE!published at 83 mins

Queen of the South 1-3 Hibernian

That Maxwell goal seems to have stirred Hibs anew.

Kevin Nisbet wins a corner, from which Christian Doidge rattles the post on the hunt for his hat-trick.

The big striker will feel he ought to have buried that header, rising highest at the back stick.

That's a full-back running forward! What a brilliant goal. Nice nutmeg from Maxwell then he shows composure.

  4. GOAL! Queen of the South 1-3 Hibernianpublished at 21:20 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

    James Maxwell

Well, well, well. Stay where you are...

That's an absolutely superb individual goal from young full-back James Maxwell.

He breaks through on the Hibs defence, does Paul Hanlon with a lovely nutmeg, and with the outside of his left boot, knocks it over the top of Matt Macey.

Nonchalant as you like. Wonderful goal.

  5. No rest for Queens defencepublished at 79 mins

Queen of the South 0-3 Hibernian

Martin Boyle's impressive shift is over, so Ross swaps one speedster for another, with Chris Caden introduced.

  6. Postpublished at 77 mins

Queen of the South 0-3 Hibernian

Two changes for Queens as well, with Connor Shields and Stephen Dobbie withdrawn.

Joe McKee and Dapo Mebude come on and will spearhead the hosts' attack in the final 13 minutes or so.

  7. Ross goes to the benchpublished at 76 mins

Queen of the South 0-3 Hibernian

Hibs are in action at Ibrox at the weekend in their first post-split Premiership fixtures, so no surprise to see Jack Ross using his bench with this one all-but won.

Kyle Magennis replaces the industrious and effervescent Jackson Irvine.

  8. Postpublished at 74 mins

Queen of the South 0-3 Hibernian

Isaiah Jones embarks on a rare foray up the left touchline for Queen of the South.

The replacement jockeys and jinks inside, but his right-footed shot is tame and easy meat for Matt Macey.

Boyle has one thing in his mind there, to flick it over Rohan Ferguson. The pace of Boyle, the pass from Nisbet - a sensational goal from Hibs.

That's the difference. That pass from Joe Newell. The weight of it is perfect for Doidge. Brilliant breakaway from Hibs. It's no less than they deserve.

    Martin Boyle

Hibs are motoring now! That's another cracker from the visitors, who are tearing the Doonhamers asunder.

Martin Boyle scurries between two defenders onto another sensationally weighted ball from the right angle of the box.

Out comes Rohan Ferguson. Over him goes the chip from Boyle. Clinical. Brilliant. Game over.

GOAL Queen of the South 0-2 Hibernianpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

    Christian Doidge

Bang. That might do it. Hibs go from coast to coast, and it's all about the tenacity, composure and class of Joe Newell.

The midfielder pick-pockets Stephen Dobbie on the edge of the Hibs box, as the striker claims in vain for a penalty that was never likely to be given.

Off the Englishman strides, and he splits the scrambling Queens defence with a delicious through-ball.

Christian Doidge is one-on-one with Rohan Ferguson, draws the goalkeeper, and clips coolly into the net. Ruthless.

I think Shields can take another touch there. Don't get me wrong, it's a good hit but it's a magnificent save.

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 68 mins

Queen of the South 0-1 Hibernian

Stunning save from Matt Macey! Hibs have been bossing this second half, but their giant stopper saves them from being pegged back.

Connor Shields latches on to piercing ball forward, burns away from the defence and Macey tips his drive round the post at full stretch. Cracking save.

  15. Jack in the boxpublished at 66 mins

Queen of the South 0-1 Hibernian

Jackson Irvine is becoming increasingly prominent in this second half. The Australian is a real thoroughbred athlete, a ball-winner and ball-carrier who is always looking to drive into the Queens box.

Queens still hold a threat on the counter, but they can't get good possession of the ball to find one of their forward players.

    Quote Message

Queens aren't getting enough pressure on the ball. They're not playing with any deal of aggression. They need to be in Hibs' faces a little bit more. And win the ball back in the opposition half rather than five yards outside their own box.

  18. CLOSE!published at 64 mins

Queen of the South 0-1 Hibernian

You have to think it's a matter of time before Hibs score again. The pressure on Queens is utterly relentless.

Joe Newell is picked out by Martin Boyle and with his right foot, caresses just across the face of goal.

The hosts need some breathing space and a foothold in this game before it's too late.

  19. 'Doig will eventually catch one right'published at 21:01 British Summer Time 5 April 2021

Queen of the South 0-1 Hibernian

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on BBC Scotland

    Quote Message

The last three corners have dropped to Doig on the edge of the box and Queens can't get pressure on him. That's something they'll have to deal with. He's going to eventually catch one right.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 60 mins

Queen of the South 0-1 Hibernian

Ooft, that's a rasper from Jackson Irvine, who gobbles up possession 25m out, and thunders a right-foot drive straight at Rohan Ferguson. The Queens stopper beats it over the bar.

The corner is only half-cleared, and once again it drops to Josh Doig, who can't quite over the bouncing ball enough to keep his volley from rising over.
